if you were such a fool as to ever think Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable would never get brought up on Punch up the Jam, today's episode is here to prove you wrong, you idiot
as someone now afflicted with jojo brain im glad that they do mention it

On the bombcast they talk a bit about controller features, including a little bit about how great HD rumble is.
I don't get it.
I've never noticed controller vibration on Switch being different from any other controllers. One of Ben's examples is Ring Fit Adventure, but as far as I can tell it only varies the intensity of the vibration, which other vibration methods can do too.
Maybe I just need to play 1 2 Switch.
The best game for experiencing HD rumble is actually Super Mario Odyssey, believe it or not
Swimming around in the carbonated sea produces a very neat feeling in the controller
I'm re-downloading Odyssey to try that, because I don't remember it at all.
Odyssey literally requires you to use the rumble to find some of the moons (and yes, the conversation about Nintendo's hostility to accessibility fully applies here).
My memory of that is that it's just the intensity depending on distance, but I'll check that out too.
It also rumbles in the direction of the buried moon.

The only rumble controller I've ever had was the Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro, and it was the future.

I like the Xbox's trigger rumble with racing games, which sets off when you're losing grip when pushing the gas or braking. That's the sort of thing that gives you actual, valuable feedback and is a useful interface between you and the game.
Most of the time though it vibrates because you shoot your gun or something, superfluous like 99% of rumble usage.
Going between Super Mario Odyssey and a controller tester on PC with an Xbone controller, I will admit that there is some difference in the rumble, though I would not definitively call one better or worse.
I would describe the effect of Mario jumping in the sparkling water as "light pulsing" and even if you couldn't 100% replicate it on an Xbone controller, I think you could get pretty close.
I'm a little surprised to discover that Mario Odyssey has rumble for basically everything and I never noticed because it's not actually important.
It also rumbles in the direction of the buried moon.
Only left to right. If you move up or down the rumble just gets weaker. Xbox and Playstation controllers could do that too, they have a rumble motor in each handle.

It does? Boy I could not tell and they don't explain that at all. Each of those moons has led to me fumbling around for an interminable time, as if I was trying to take off my partner's bra in the dark for the first time.
It's not like it's only his podcast, it's basically the Kotaku Splitscreen podcast with Maddy Myers and Kirk Hamilton in addition to Schreier, just under a new name.
My podcast is called left trigger right trigger and it's all about the beautiful game, Call Of Duty
I'll cohost this thing, we could do a "Top Ten Warcrimes That Are Killstreaks" episode
I got the white phosphorous killstreak today (from playing that mode where you get killstreaks as drops, not from actual skill), and wow, that is in poor taste, videogame
yeah I rather enjoy the current ModWar, as someone who'd never really played a CoD before besides some sessions of split screen Zombies as a teenager, but that WP killstreak feels like they took a look at Spec Ops: The Line and got exactly the wrong message
there is no such thing as "friendly white phosphorus", game

Schreier’s leaving Kotaku and not hiding that Spanfeller is the reason.

But it's not about games, it's a Rumble Fish retrospective.
I'll keep that one in mind because I think it genuinely rules?
Like, the PS4 controllers can do audio, and I love it whenever that happens
RE2/3 on the PS4 also use the color lights to display your current health level and I think it's great.
