    Did you know that most vertebrates are able to to synthesize vitamin C inside their bodies, but simians (including humans) lost this ability due to a random mutation

    A mutation like this would've killed off carriers of a different species, but the ape/monkey/human ancestor probably ate so much fruit that they weren't particularly bothered by it

    And thus humans can suffer from scurvy

    I believe it was simply that he didn't want Donkey Kong to have them because he fucking hated Donkey Kong. He also likes to play dress-up and make his minions match his current theme.

    Well obviously not. In the cartoon it’s “Congo Bongo Island”, but DK64 clearly names it “Donkey Kong Island”. That and the very different interpretation of Crystal Coconuts clearly makes the cartoon an alternate continuity.
