Did you know that if you mutate something onto Scute Swarm, that every landfall once you hit 6 lands creates a copy of the whole damn creature? So, for example, drop a land and get a free Gemrazer or Auspicious Starrix or whatever, and then they're all shitting out 1/1 Insect tokens too...

That was fun to learn about. Yeah...fun...

Step one sounds like Migratory Greathorn.

Wow, that would be insane. I wonder if there is a mutate creature that can put a land back in your deck somehow.

The real money play is Starrix since it can (and IME will) hit multiple lands but gotta ramp up first.

You don't really need to go any further than Migratory Greathorn mutated onto Scute Swarm - maybe something a little larger on top of that. I threw a deck together since I already had all the mutates and...it just feels dirty. It'll get into a temp standoff a fair amount of the time until you have some unholy double Migratory Greathorn-Scute Swarm-Gemrazer/whatever and then you drop a Fabled Passage and play Cultivate and after a few seconds for the client to try to deal with what you have wrought you have like 20 of those abominations and I don't even know how many little Insects and your opponent is like, "Are you sitting on 1 more Negate or Heroic Intervention? Oh, you are. Well then."

Forsaken monument is straight up broken. With stonecoil serpent and palladium myr in the rotation, its effectively a 'play, win next turn' combination.

So when I launch the game I get the normal loading screens, then a "Waiting for Server" spinner, then just a black screen with the MTGA cursor. Twitter and forums suggests I'm not the only one but it's incredibly frustrating seeing the game work fine for literally every big-name streamer. I've actually gone as far as uninstalling and reinstalling.

Anyone else experiencing this? Any work arounds?

It's a 5 mana do- nothing that's underwhelming compared to The Great Henge in almost every way. It's even a weaker T4 nut draw play, as Lovestruck Beast into Henge into Scooze or Hornbeetle or a stonecoil for X = 2 leaves you with a larger board, more life, and up a card compared to Myr into Monument into Stonecoil for x = 1

I had things working last night after doing the Uninstall/Reinstall (followed by restarting the game after one of the later patches).

I saw someone in Day9's chat say that running it in Admin Mode can resolve issues, and reddit had a much more involved process of renaming certain folders and blah blah blah.

Went 7-2 in quick draft with all the silversmote zombies:
    pyj2i7mytyax.png
Lost to land flood, and drawing into lands after having all my creatures removed through removal and Gorex2 and getting knocked down from 25.
Almost lost a third to land flood, but then top decked Faith's Fetters onto a sole attacker with 2 buffs.

... The matchmaker kept pairing me into mirror matches though.
I kept sacrificing my own creatures for cards so that other people's patricians didn't fire from faith fetters

Why would you want to pay 6 mana just to give the later scutes flying and murder one creature? You can at least use Heron so it's cheaper if you really want evasion.

ZNR draft seems relatively low power compared to Ikoria but with a lot of potential value. I had a nasty R/G Landfall deck yesterday, though it only managed six wins as I stumbled a few times and didn't have much removal. Party seems solid as well. My current deck is R/G with a decent selection of warriors/rogues/wizards and then the 6cmc-minus-party 5/4 haste and 6-cmc-minus-party 5/5 vigilance at the top end, which is some damn good face smash.

I'm curious how powerful some of the more niche archetypes like B/G counters, R/W Warriors, U/B Ninjas, etc will be. I would also strongly recommend against ever drafting 3-colors or even splashing unless you've built a really solid control base. There's almost no support for your mana base. On the flip side, the ability to play 25+ spells (counting spell lands as 2/3rds of a land per the master Frank Karsten) will make your 2-color decks much more consistent.

Was watching Raph Levy draft this morning and some of his thoughts were:

    1. Due to poor fixing and minimal "cross-synergy", you're incentivised to buy into a given archetype and cut it hard.
    2. Random big dudes (like All-Star Kazandu Stomper) can stabilize and turn the board quickly, as so many creatures are mid-sized and conditionally powerful based on Party and whether or not they were kicked.
    3. On a more humorous note: absolutely RTFC, as he had number of combat mishaps due to stuff like "oh, this dude with wings doesn't have flying" and "oh, crap, this guy can tap other rogues to gain deathtouch"

Roost of Drakes seems to be a very good reason to move on Kicker.dek, and Raph made a really strong Golgari Counters deck that ground out the opponent with Moss Skeleton and the Kicker Shade.

Dimir Rogues is a new deck and it is awesome.

Just gotta figure out what cards I should be focusing on.

Right now mine looks like this:

    4 Merfolk Windrobber
    4 Thieves' Guild Enforcer
    3 Ghostly Pilferer
    4 Expedition Skulker
    3 Heartless Act
    4 Drown in the Loch
    4 Soaring Thought-Thief
    4 Brazen Borrower
    2 Glasspool Mimic
3 Call of the Death Dweller
    1 Nighthawk Scavenger
    2 Zareth San, the Trickster
    2 Agadeem's Awakening
    3 Clearwater Pathway
    6 Island
    7 Swamp
    4 Temple of Deceit

This is not at all optimized, and some odd quantities are due to me not wanting to burn rare wildcards yet and working with what I actually have. I will likely drop a Heartless Act to put a 4th Call of the Death Dweller back in.

Thoughts so far: Soaring Thought-Thief and Zareth San are really good, especially in a deck full of rogues with Thieves' Guild Enforcer. Flashing in Zareth San and pulling some ridonkulous big creature out of the opponent's graveyard is enough to get a concede most of the time. You can also use it to pull a planeswalker, or an Elspeth Conquers Death or any other permanent though so there is a lot of fun potential. I will likely burn a rare or two on more Zareth Sans if I don't get one using draft tokens, but I want to keep playing things out a bit first. A lot of the time if you really get going with TGEs and STTs you don't really need anything else other than maybe Call of the Death Dweller to bring a couple back. Pumped up fliers win it for me more often than not.

I have yet to use Agadeem's Awakening as a spell rather than as a land. I want to believe that eventually it will be a bigger Call of the Death Dweller but so far, eh. Glasspool Mimic is really nice though, and the times I do get to copy the most effective rogue on the board are worth the times it slows me down by coming in as a tapped land. Merfolk Windrobber is unessential, but I like having the extra 1-drop to make it easier to bring 2 creatures back with Call of the Death Dweller instead of just one, and more so because more fliers are usually good, especially when they get you to 8 cards in the opponent's graveyard a turn or two earlier and start hitting for 2 or 3 when STTs hit the board. The sac for a card has been useful in a pinch, and also to block something with lifelink and prevent them from gaining that life.

Nighthawk Scavenger is usually anywhere from a 5/3 to an 8/3 with flying, lifelink and deathtouch, and I can bring it back with Call. There is nothing to not love about it.

I don't like the deck as much with Rankle, though there are times where it would be useful. Haven't tried any of the other new rogues in there yet, mainly because I've been really happy with how it runs as is.

Things seem to be working once again after another patch, so I hopped into a draft and tried out R/G Beats like @admanb

    vnktt4jsy8t1.jpg

Made a very questionable 1st pick of Valakut Exploration from a mediocre pack, thinking "it could... sometimes... be kinda like Phyrexian Arena?" Puttered along in red through pack 1, thinking I would be more likely to try for U/R Wizards, as I already had the two Uncommon Wizard dudes (Bad Kavu and Shitty Pinger), but ended up getting a late Scythecat and figured it was a good omen. Green Inscription started pack 2, and from there I just tried to ensure a good curve, do my best to fill in Party gaps, and acquire some unconditional removal if possible.

My initial build was a bit different and had 1 fewer land, but after two quick losses I revised things to what you see and pulled off the 7-0 comeback. Kargan Intimidator did some heavy lifting, while I think I would have struggled much more had I faced UB Rogues or BW Clerics, but many of my opponents were on similar strategies (or worse).

Your deck is more aggro than mine but I definitely played Valakut Exploration and it kicked ass. Landfall -- look at two/draw one is strong!

I had significant doubts as to whether I could really be OK with not casting a dude on turn 3, and after my initial build was mana-light and just bad, I was too gunshy to figure out a build that fit Exploration.

Regardless, I would rate it as Genuinely Not First-Pickable in most contexts, but would have liked to try it out.

...yeah I don't think Scute is long for the not-beong-banned world. The mutate combos get o.o really fast.

I was playing a non-mutate Scute deck in Historic earlier, and it got kind of hilarious in one match. Because the opponent had two creatures that were "You gain 1 life every time a creature enters the battlefield" so the scutes were giving them SO MUCH HEALTH.
