    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cs3PzXYyTFQ

    Baber, start your ascent!

    mufm2a58l62m.jpeg

There’s plenty to grab onto at low level, but you’re not going to be able to hang onto the wall for more than a few seconds at a time. Best to reach a balcony or dark green foliage.

Pulling yourself up onto a balcony will require a meagre 6 DC Strength check. I’ll tell you what happens should you fail...

It will become harder to climb as you ascend, but not beyond your capabilities.

    The Map

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17iBdwSv5fTlhLZGfsisIZkWIRl5jy2ANPlzs9-6zGn8/edit

I think you can edit it, if not just give me a description of where you think you end up.

    Rule Reminders

    Climbing, Swimming, and Crawling
Each foot of movement costs 1 extra foot (2 extra feet in difficult terrain) when you’re climbing, swimming, or crawling. You ignore this extra cost if you have a climbing speed and use it to climb or a swimming speed and use it to swim. At the DM’s option, climbing a slippery vertical surface or one with few handholds requires a successful Strength (Athletics) check. Similarly, gaining any distance in rough water might require a successful Strength (Athletics) check.

    Jumping
Your Strength determines how far you can jump.

Long Jump. When you make a long jump, you cover a number of feet up to your Strength score if you move at least 10 feet on foot immediately before the jump. When you make a standing long jump, you can leap only half that distance. Either way, each foot you clear on the jump costs a foot of movement.

This rule assumes that the height of your jump doesn't matter, such as a jump across a stream or chasm. At your DM's option, you must succeed on a DC 10 Strength (Athletics) check to clear a low obstacle (no taller than a quarter of the jump's distance), such as a hedge or low wall. Otherwise, you hit it.

When you land in difficult terrain, you must succeed on a DC 10 Dexterity (Acrobatics) check to land on your feet. Otherwise, you land prone.

High Jump. When you make a high jump, you leap into the air a number of feet equal to 3 + your Strength modifier (minimum of 0 feet) if you move at least 10 feet on foot immediately before the jump. When you make a standing high jump, you can jump only half that distance. Either way, each foot you clear on the jump costs a foot of movement. In some circumstances, your DM might allow you to make a Strength (Athletics) check to jump higher than you normally can.

You can extend your arms half your height above yourself during the jump. Thus, you can reach above you a distance equal to the height of the jump plus 1 1/2 times your height.

The round door slides away at your touch, and light slowly fills the corridor before you.

Marble sized orbs embedded into the walls flicker into life, casting a muted glow. Something like the Dancing Lights spell is held within them, still working, barely.

Along one wall is the following phrase: “go up for living quarters, no merchants, no patrolmen without written note from H”

Up ahead is a room with a half-opened round door. It’s malfunctioning and dormant.

The room has a large statue in it of three pursuers, terrible beasts like a manticore crossed with a cloaker. Today they have three cheap flat masks on their faces, each with a jolly smile painted on. One has a fancy scarf wrapped around it. They are all graffitied with names and pictures of flowers.

Besides the statue is a staircase down to the basement floor.

[OOC: I think she moved here after The Incident. This is the last place on your list to explore, or was.]

Gear, you’re not familiar with Cucha, but you know a few things:
    1. It was built by dwarf slaves.
    2. It’s overgrown with flowers and trees, and has lots of wildlife crawling around.
    3. This entire floor was cleared of dangerous traps and monsters decades ago.
    4. Spells still linger here, like the lights.
    5. The basement level was once used to make weapons of war.
    6. There are secret doors in the basement, mostly marked these days.
    7. The residents live on the next floor up.
    8. Above the living quarters level it gets really wild, and some traps might still be armed.

You might be able to avoid a confrontation if, once you find the staircase up, you sneak passed the apartments. Easy, right?

Baber, you manage to reach the balcony and pull yourself up a few seconds later. A couple of birds take flight as you get onto your feet. The rain is cool on your skin, helping you get your breath back.

Before you is a large open window draped by moth eaten, dull curtains. Beside it rich, dark green vines run up the wall and reach into a window above.

After a moment faint light shines out from the balcony window.

Directly 5 feet ahead is an obvious trap made of black marble, something like an animal snare, but were it to snap shut it would crush your leg clean off. Parts in the middle of it appear to have been removed.

    7r0xhbtolbus.jpeg

Gear and Hado, following arrows painted on the wall you head to where the staircase leading up will be. You stop momentarily in the corridor as a spooked creature hisses at you; it is an oupsit. Common enough, it’s a officially classed as a monstrosity, not a beast, though it poses no threat. It’s thought some other creature, cats perhaps, fed on rats contaminated by decaying arcana from below the city.

    pejsuwbvmnc5.jpeg
    pktncsem9yoj.jpeg

Far ahead of the oupsit a giant cog slowly stops and starts, turning clockwise through the floor, the reason forgotten and redundant.

Behind the cog is a walled off area, and to the right is a thin glass separation between here and a small alcove. Though dark, you’re certain the area will light up as you walk in.

Gear walks forward carefully, leaving the Oupsit room to move around. It's pretty cute, but she's not here to get a pet today. She keeps moving, though the colossal cog catches her attention for a moment. Gear takes a moment to look it over, see if she can figure anything out about it.

The oupsit skitters backwards, then flips upside down and falls upwards. If sprints off along the ceiling.

The giant cog must connects to some kind of forge beneath. It’s made of obsidian, and is flecked with tiny marks of what might be... what do you call it, copper? Too small to be worth scrapping off, but still, this place used to work metal!

You can only assume sections below you have other giant cogs moving in unison.

Looking over to the wall high glass separating a small area, you see there is a 3 foot high lever. How do you get in there?

    Gear and Hado

Next to the glass wall is a small woven basket full of smooth glass pebbles of various natural colours. They must have been collected from a beach over many months. The basket has a note on it: “make ‘em touch”.

Behind the glass wall is a lever and nothing else. It looks to be clean, but a dusty sandal footprint can be seen by the lever.

    Baber

The trap closes swiftly 3/4 of the way, then falls back. It’s safe.

Inside the room you see a Floretta woman sat at a table. Her room is full of archaic ornaments, things like battered shields, faded paintings and little statues of animals.

In a very eloquent voice, somewhat interested and certainly not afraid, she says, “Shame about the rain. Is the front door acting up again?”

“There’s no point.”, says the feathered young woman, “Nothing matters.”

    Her voice wavers, unsure.

She kicks the door behind her open suddenly. Behind her is a dimly lit corridor that slopes upwards, and a turn in the corridor. The slope is full of deep cuts from what might have been large talons.

“Don’t go up the slope, it only leads to a drop.”, she says.
