I live in a studio that's 410 sqft and it wasn't intolerable to live with another person semi-long-term but you really do need to have honest conversations about space/storage/privacy/alone-time/etc

A third choice is where you don't move in right now...

Oh no it’s what we call a 1 room apartment. These have a bathroom, kitchen and a common room that’s often practically just a living room with a bed in one corner.

i'm giving genuine thought to saving up for a mortgage or saving up to leave the country or just saving up and then going to a casino and putting it all on red

    Gotcha

What about a Murphy bed and some sliding panels?

On the subject of living space, recently I've done some hard thinking on all the piles of small junk that's hard to store that I have just lying around. Did a big sweep of my closet recently to clear out a big pile of cables and tech debris that I'd never use.

(cue me needing something I threw out within the next week)

In Sweden we have an idiom: "Det är mycket nu".

Essentially the Swedish version of "living in interesting times".

To me, it feels like our generation has no future for which to save money for, no money to meaningfully save even if that weren't true, and no reliable investment vehicle or safe haven even if the first two weren't true

I've recently started saving money but because this is the darkest timeline I'm fully expecting that to be yet another institutional-level process rendered obsolete due to the poor stewardship of the boomers

Yeah, the first choice is pretty much that as well since it’s take a long time to find a bigger rental place. It’d have to be a fairly long term goal in that case.

I think it was Neal Stephenson who described us as the first generation without a future

It's hard not to feel that; we've been locked out of participation in the vast majority of spheres of life by the boomers who are accelerating environmental and political catastrophes that we will inherent
