WoW technical problems.

I just bought this game (yeah, yeah, I know - three years behind the curve) and I've been playing it for the past week quite frequently. It's been going quite smoothly with minimal problems and loads of fun for all. Then, today, I ran into a problem that I can't really wrap my head around.

I can launch the game fine, and it will go to the regular background, as it normally does. But instead of the login buttons and news frames that appear nothing happens. It's just the background with music playing. Forever. I look on the Blizzard website for some sort of help and posted on their cesspool of a forum but I haven't had any luck so far. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong - no error messages, nothing funky with the actual video display, and it loads up in the same amount of time that it did just a couple of hours ago when this problem didn't exist.

I'd really like to fix this today, since it's my day off and I want to play my game. If you have any ideas on what I can do to resolve this, I'd really appreciate it.

I think during that screen it connects and checks some things about your program. Whenever I put in a new patch (and I know a new one just hit) it'll ask me again if I want to block/allow it to connect. So Windows might be blocking it from connecting, and therefore it never gets past that. Something similiar's happened to me, but only for a short time.

Reynolds is correct. Right before the login screen buttons and text boxes appear, the game is scanning for malicious WoW-related software. This is to both keep you save and to keep you from cheating.

Figure out what would make this scan hang to see if that's your culprit.

Fixed.

I think it may have been a by-product of hardware instability. I just had to switch out an old powersupply that had been giving me trouble. After that, it worked.

Now I just see 'unknowns' and red ? everywhere in game...

Your icons are displaying improperly?

That means you need to fix your interface, like delete your WTF folder, OR that your video card (drivers?) is not cooperating with WoW.

Yeah. Patches tend to screw things up for weeks at a time...
