Bold move, since Ohio State cannot lose this season.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Bold move, since Ohio State cannot lose this season.
They have to live in Columbus without Ohio State sports
That is the greatest loss of all
In all seriousness, I hear Columbus is nice
It’s no Ann Arbor though GO BLUEEEEEEE
Eh, Ann Arbor is just Worthington, we got like 6 better suburbs than that
But really, Columbus is a great city held back to “meh” by 2 things:
1. Location- no geographical features worth a shit and no sunshine ever
2. all the dumb OSU/Papa Johns crossover fans
I’d add a third for the police force but they’re largely captured by #2 there
OSU probably wasn’t going to be that good this year anyway- Young, Okudah, and Dobbins really made the difference and there are no proven successors to any of them (lots of good recruits at DL and DB, and a veteran transfer at RB, but those 3 were in the top 15 of all players nationally last year)
The White House is trying to get Big 10 football to run by supplying a bunch of fast result tests. Definitely more worthwhile than fixing schools and testing high exposure employees.
Hey, uh, it looks like there will be at least some football this fall. Should I run the pick 'em?
On the one hand, the touch of normalcy would be great, but on the other, it's bizarre anything will be happening at all, when I think most of us would think the prudent thing would be for there to not really be college football this fall without at least acknowledging these kids aren't normal students.
So I'm not sure which way to go. There aren't enough games this weekend to make it worth doing, so it'd start next week.
If we do the Pick'em, I'm still willing to do the write-up, but be forewarned I will be VERY mean to all teams involved.

Speaking as a resident homer of one of these dumbfuck teams they have everything coming to them, being mean during the pickem writeup is the least thing they have to worry about.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
If the pick ‘em happens I will do it for the first time ever
Why haven’t I done it before you ask?
I don’t really remember, past BFL was dumb
Actually I think I skipped it one year because I was interviewing for a student job with the UM athletic dept and figured I shouldn’t be betting on football in that case
(I did not get it, and I assure you that had I received it I would have single handedly averted the disaster that was 2014 Michigan football)

I'm in!
If the remaining schools are making the choice to play based on whatever health and safety info and protocols they are buying into, might as well pick 'em and hope everyone stays healthy and well.
Also, ND released their preliminary game day and ticketing plan recently:
- Stadium capacity will be at 20% or around 16,000. Masks and social distancing guidelines will be in place and enforced
- ND students will have the first crack on season tickets (approximately 12,000 maximum for all students)
- Faculty and Staff will have the next chance for single game tickets with priority going to previous season ticket holders.
- A block of tickets will be available for family members of both ND and the visiting team
- No tickets will be sold to the public
- No tailgating will be allowed on campus
Hopefully by next week we will have football vs. Duke then South Florida the following week.
It's going to be hard to give a shit about CFB this year with my team not playing. Sure, they've been terrible 3 of the last 4 years but they get me invested in it all.
It's the right choice not to play but i'm gonna miss it
I think it should be delayed, but if football is being played I'm going to watch it. Not at all looking forward to hearing the hot takes from announcers.

I’m in but I will shit on every last team including my own that are playing because fuck them and their priorities.
The idea of american football of any stripe being played right now is fucking ridiculous, but if the pickem exists, I will participate (although with the Pac-12 taking the responsible option and me paying very little attention to the other conferences I expect to be ridiculously bad at it)
A reminder of how the pick'ems work. Each week, we will post a list of games, of the Straight Up and Against-the-Spread variety. Straight Up is fairly simple - you pick the team that you think will win the game. Against-the-Spread is a little different - for ATS, you're not picking a team to win, but whether the team that is favored will win by a certain amount or not. At the end of the list is the GAME OF THE CENTURY OF THE WEEK, a special game that is worth double the points and can be either Straight Up or ATS.
To participate, all you have to do is click on the link at the end of the post, fill out your picks, and make sure to put your forum name so you can be tracked on a weekly basis. It's that simple!
Anyway, off to the picks!
Straight Up (spread in parenthesis courtesy of ESPN)
Arkansas State @ Kansas State (-10.5) - Hey, remember at the start of all this, Kansas State came back to practice, and had to shut everything down when a third of the team came down with COVID? Remember how that was *checks notes* like 3 months ago? God this is the stupidest country. Arkansas State is playing because they would really appreciate the money to fund their athletic department but not pay their players.
Western Kentucky @ Louisville (-11.5) - You know who I am happy to have not heard much from the past few months? Papa John Schnatter. I mean, knowing him, that dude probably has some opinions on whether COVID is real or not, but I assume he's just been slamming pizzas this entire time while muttering racial swears about Shaq stealing his company or something. You may be asking what this has to do with Western Kentucky/Louisville, but just remember that at one point Papa John forced Louisville to allow him to drive his shitty car across the field prior to a game just because he was their sugar daddy.
Coastal Carolina @ Kansas (-6.5) - When I pitched the games, I made sure to include this one, because while Kansas is favored by almost a touchdown, ESPN's FPI matchup predictor thing gives Coastal Carolina an edge, and let's be honest: even with Les Miles in charge, this is still Kansas. They're definitely still able to just lose to an FCS team whenever they want.
Against the Spread
Louisiana @ #23 Iowa State (-11.5) - Matt Campbell had options and could have left Ames this offseason. Instead, he chose to stay, and while that's probably good for his long-term coaching prospects (because you know someone will be willing to pay a stupid amount of money to him) it also means he's had to ride out a pandemic in Ames. Iowa has been doing a good job in recent weeks making that decision look as awful as possible.
Georgia Tech @ Florida State (-12.5) - There's a lot of jokes I could make here with two teams representing two states with absolute fucking morons in charge, but honestly? I just feel bad for everyone involved. Especially Florida State players, who very quickly spent the entire offseason learning that their coach fucking sucks, and that the university really doesn't give a shit about their safety, but does care that you don't say mean things about them. Compared to that, living in Georgia under noted dipshit Brian Kemp almost seems quaint.
#1 Clemson (-32.5) @ Wake Forest - Y'all want to see a dead body?
GAME OF THE CENTURY OF THE WEEK (AGAINST THE SPREAD)
Duke @ #10 Notre Dame (-19.5) - Oh look, it's longtime ACC member Notre Dame, facing off in a week one tilt against their longtime divisional (is the ACC even using divisions this year?) rival Duke! This rivalry goes back decades, and I'm sure we all remember major battles between these two titans back in the 70s, and who can forget when scrappy upstart Notre Dame upended traditional power Duke in 1986? These two equally-successful football programs are sure to have another fantastic game that the ACC Network will play on repeat until the heat death of the universe.
For what it's worth, since it is technically week 2 of the season, I'll continue to go by that, even though we didn't do a week 1 pick 'em. We also decided, at least for this week, to go with 7 games instead of the usual 10. Since a large number of games for sure will not be played anytime soon, we decided to reduce the size of the pick 'em. If the Pac-12 and Big Ten actually start around Thanksgiving or play in the spring, I suppose we'll be back then as well - to me that sounds like an extremely best-case scenario.
As always, thanks again to Nirya for writing this up on short notice,
Bless you for keeping this going, but I'm opting out this season because I know jack shit about college football outside of the Pac-12, and they're thankfully taking the responsible option for once. See y'all in 2021, hopefully
Especially given that the game of the week was a gimme ATS.

The idea that your vote is a moral statement about you or who you vote for is some backwards ass libertarian nonsense. Your vote is about society. Vote to protect the vulnerable.

I missed with no @ but it’s fine, everything about this is shite between the school responses, coach responses and a distant last play on the field for FSU. Oh and I got in to a flame war on warchant rivals because mask policy wasn’t being adhered to and the first call out of it someone did got dog piled with “libtard” comments, we deserve to be trash but I wish the students didn’t have to suffer because of it.

also Iowa City has one of the worst coronavirus outbreaks anywhere on the planet right now so it's not really a great time for B1G football
On the one hand, the touch of normalcy would be great, but on the other, it's bizarre anything will be happening at all, when I think most of us would think the prudent thing would be for there to not really be college football this fall without at least acknowledging these kids aren't normal students.
