I made the mistake of showing the dune re-dub to a memelord jackass friend of mine and now every morning I wake up and the first thing I see on my phone is some horseshit like this
I don’t know who how or why but I know that the phrase “boners and strife” entered my brain from these forums and umpteen years later I cannot get it out of my head.

I maintain that the David Lynch's Dune was a brilliant adaptation of the first 1/3 of the book, but then they apparently ran out of everything (money, time, fucks) and did a complete hatchet job on the rest.

I remember the meanness of the old forums when they drove out a female forumer. I don't know if she deserved it, but it was punctuated by someone with a Dr. Doom avatar saying something about a "Ham Planet".
Also dogpiling on someone named "Randall Flagg" with various ways (including laying out socks) to spell out "More like Randall Fag".
There was also the intraforum popularity tournament.
Remember like ten years ago when we had a forum RP thread with our superhero OCs? That was fun, if brief. It still use my superhero OC sometimes! (Like for a supers ttrpg I played in.)
Also these forums were the first place I was able to be myself and be a girl so that's neat.
After I left Alaska I used the forums as my predominant method for socializing so I would say it is a huge part of pushing me leftward, especially seeing the juxtaposition of what people on here say and the way it seems everyone in Indiana acts.

*Literally* have five full arcs of character buildup in a folder somewhere, including one team up with another forumer (until we would eventually turn on each other), an origin story, and an introduction arc that ended with a magic dragon fight. I had plans to run them in reverse chronological order to try to tie them into larger events in the world as they unfolded (and also because I was watching a lot of Lost around then)
