you know i've been on these boards for twelvish years now and if my biggest impact was helping to introduce more people to the best Australian Man talking about early 2000's tech nostalgia content creator on the web then it was an internet well lived.
seriously though i am glad he getting to a point were he can live off this channel and be completely independent, especially consider how absolutely destroyed the live music industry isl and i just love that brand of true enthusiast content and want more of it's like Techmoan, Technology Connections and Aging Wheels.

more generally, there are lots of foods or types of foods that are considered standard, which when you look at their histories and how they originally came to be popular often has very little to do with their flavor/quality

i mean not really? potatoes are a fantastic flavor delivery vector, but it's not their flavor that turned them into a dietary staple for so many people - it's the fact that they're relatively easy to cultivate (in certain regions) and deliver a good amount of calories and sugars for the energy needed to grow them (see: rice, wheat, sorghum, etc). it's just a lucky bonus that they're also conducive to tasty tasty dishes. but they don't have to be tasty to be popular/important to cuisine.
