"Bugsnax will never love you!"
"You don't know a thing about love, that's why your wife left you!"
So Bugsnax is a crazy fuckin' game and I think I like it a lot. The characters are really fun and they all hate each other and it is hilarious. Also the dialogue that I put in that spoiler is INSANE. I did not expect that from a cartoony cutesy looking game like Bugsnax.

I have to say I actually appreciate Serana being unmarriagable for that reason, though. Like everything, they should've had more than a couple of lines on it, but I can respect the idea of "no, things in the past have consequences that are far-reaching."
Though I'm irritated by the lack of being able to marry anyone interesting. Can't marry vampire lady (all vampires are queer this is like the point of vampires, literally the reason they have been used in media going literally back to at least 1872), can't marry handsome cat people, what is even the point of Skyrim.
you can get mods that turn it on for both of them
This is semi spoilery so fyi:
Even her dialog says she wouldn't necessarily be opposed to it, but it'd have to be with the right person, and she absolutely hints the dragonborn is that right person but she just needs more time to see if her feelings are genuine instead of just infatuation over someone who cares.
Depending on how you go through the romance dialog stuff and talk to her when you're in new places and ask her how she's feeling about literally everything... seriously stop every time you change areas, zones, parts of quests and see if she has new dialog options because she has so fucking many and has commentary about almost everything possible.

"it is predatory for a man to learn about the interests of a woman he likes so they have something to talk about" is the sort of twitter dot com take I live for.
Ehh, I mean, you can definitely do this as part of an exploitative predatory thing. I suspect most actual argument is going to center around some people forming images in their heads of someone learning about socialism so they can talk to the socialist girl about socialist theory and some people forming images of a mustache twirling villain forming a false persona so that he can trick her into sleeping with someone who doesn't exist before ghosting her.
The issue with the latter is just that lying to someone to sleep with them is generally Bad, rather than anything specific about the type of lie, so shug emoji

If I hadn't finished Dawnguard as the coda to the main game, I'd do this. The problem is I finished Dragonborn, the main game, then Dawnguard, so I feel pretty... done with things overall, despite knowing there's probably a lot more that could be done.
But yes, I'm intrigued at her, and appreciate an actually competently written follower with a lot to say. I talked with her every two minutes during the Dawnguard questline, because awkward romance in games is my jam because I am ultimately a hilariously one dimensional stereotype of a youngish queer lady.
if a woman took an interest in my hobbies i would do what any real nerd must do and immediately question her extensively to make sure she's not some sort of faker
Which I now realise, based on our collective experiences detailed in the last couple of pages, is standard projection
A conversation with my sister in law probably a year ago.
Her: "I might break up with my girlfriend, I don't think we have the same interests."
Me: "What do you mean? Doesn't she go hiking and camping with you like... every week?"
Her: " yeah, but she isn't really into it like I am."
Me: " she literally pays for the trips for you and buys you camping gear and constantly spends time doing it with you... what do you want out of her?"
and I wonder about my neighbors even though I don't have them

I got a youtube recommend and now I have to go back and see if anyone I've been watching is not-so-secretly a Nazi.

What the fuck did I do to deserve seeing that? Does this Hades Speedrunner I watched yesterday have a few 'gamer moments' I don't know about?
The beauty of the algorithm is that it can do things like figure out that many gamers are trashbags and then assign a higher probability to "wants to hear about white genocide" because you play video games.

nothing cooler than watching someone geek out about a topic and burn your ear off for hours on end
I did that to someone last night about swords and I realized I had been talking for about 45 minutes on discord about greek and roman swords and bronze and alloying/casting. I felt a little bad.
Imagine how i feel when i figure out I've been doing that to someone about my dumb D&D game
Is Jordan Peterson still clinging to life in a Russian hospital or what
I think he is back, and ready to tell you to make your bed and eat only steak.

I also liked Kharjo because he was one of the only characters I remember really being kind to strangers. The quest to get him as a follower is to retrieve a sentimental heirloom of his from bandits, and he explicitly says "I appreciate this but be careful, it's a replaceable trinket, but your life isn't," which is nice in a game where most people are like "I WANT THIS RING PLEASE GO FIGHT A TRILLION SKELLINGTONS TO GET IT FOR ME." But no intra-species romance for me, apparently.
(Serana is excellent but by stereotype I mostly mean that I enjoy romance in games waaaay more than an alien species would deem reasonable, and want it crammed into more things as long as it's done well. It's the only part of Mass Effect I've ever written anything approaching an essay on, for example.)

Hmm "American mink are believed by some to have contributed to the decline of the less hardy European mink through competition."
I don't know what's with American animals being weirdly hyperaggressive and able to displace European ones. It's true with basically all crayfish species, too.

America is basically the stereotype of Africa from 1800s, with extremely aggressive wild animals that'll fuck everything in Europe up.

It is interesting to think about how perceptions of people change wrt hobbies and interests and gender.
I.e., I'm into the same stuff now as I always have been, I think, but many outside observers would treat my interest in gaming as a primary hobby differently, and my sub-interest in game romance very differently after transition.

Maybe it's like a Star Wars situation where Vol I introduces everyone but Vol II is better from a satisfying narrative standpoint.
