Steam Remote Play Together: no image

Since it's unlikely that our friends from the UK will be coming over to Switzerland for Christmas (something about a virus, they say), we're thinking of playing some Pandemic with them online during the holidays. Steam's Remote Play Together feature should be perfect, but we've tried to get it to work at home with little success. When I run the game on my main PC and invite my wife to join on her laptop, we get a connection but the game itself doesn't seem to stream to her machine. There's no video, nothing. Strangely enough, her mouse movements translate to my computer, but without her seeing the game it's all a bit pointless.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get this running? Is there some setting that isn't activated by default that we've forgotten to click? Is it possible that the video can't be streamed because I've got an ultrawide screen hooked up to my PC and her laptop's resolution is much smaller? Or is it more likely that her laptop (it's roughly four years old and wasn't great to begin with) simply isn't up to it? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Things to try:
    • Turn off hardware encoding in Steam's advanced settings for the client and/or host
    • Run the game in windowed mode
    • Shut down any recording or streaming programs like Fraps, Shadowplay or Videostream

    Cheers, I'll try these.
