Background provided from Ars Technica open forum:
"I think the stunt that DR pulled that really burned a lot of people was back when the PS2 was rarer than a 14-year-old Alabama virgin, Daily Radar proceeded to dismantle and destroy a PS2. They neglected to tell their reading public that the PS2 was defective anyway, and made every intention that the PS2 was, in fact, a functioning unit. This pissed a lot of people off, including myself, because they seemed to have this "holier-than-thou because we know Sony and can get PS2's at will". Think back to how bad the fervor over getting a PS2 was, and then there's these jerkoffs, smashing a perfectly working unit with a sledgehammer and then throwing it out the window. What the fuck!?

They later came back and said the unit was defective to begin with, but they didn't make any indication of that during the actual article. By that time, a lot of the damage had been done, and a whole bunch of people labeled DR as dickheads (and rightfully so) that didn't give a flying ratfuck what their audience cared and thought."
