The story is so poorly told in Nioh 2, with so little actual characterization for the protagonist, that i'm relying on the "change appearance at home" option to get something, anything resembling a character out of it.
Start of the game, fresh-faced and ready to meet the world head-on.
It's now 26 years later, most of her friends have died in these shitty pointless conflicts, and someone she trusts did a very bad thing.
At least she has a demon cat now.
Oh I meant to say but forgot was that it's all a big shame because the game is really fucking fun to play. The combat is phenominal, it looks gorgeous, and of course that character creator.
That's a cat? It looks like some sort of mutated frog.
When you summon them in levels they move by rolling, and if you take one into one of the dark demon corrupted regions they turn all spiky like a pufferfish.
I cannot recommend it enough if you grew up in the 80s arcade scene. What a joy to play. Hell, it actually became the first game I left a review for. That's saying a lot. This should be the game that gets mass gifted around the thread.

The game really feels a LOT more fun after you unlock the powers. That first level was brutal and I almost quit, because I'm a big softie who likes doing as few kills as possible, but I'm also ridiculously impatient and not that into the "stealth game" genre (I got Dishonored bc it was recommended by a friend for the plot & setting). Getting Blink & Night Vision make stealth takedowns SO much easier to do quickly.

Back Alley brawl dlc lets you turn the enemies of the empress into a Bloody Mary. Using blink to get above tall boys, grab their tanks to kill the high boss.
Speaking of weaker story delivery, been playing and at least enjoying the shooty parts of Borderlands 3. Using the Gunner and it's kinda amazing to go "I have a mech with dual rocket launchers" when the heat starts to build up.

DIshonored's stealth is really built around its powers. The verticality is a huge part of the level design and you don't have an abundance of chest high walls for ground cover. Blink is what really unlocks access to the former.
There's a mission where you go rescue some Scampusses for a ninja and in that mission the summons are permanent and there's three of them. It makes fighting revenants for "honor" really easy as your cat army just beats the shit out of them preventing them from regenning ki and giving you an easy grapple kill.

You may not need to in order to finish the game but there are lots of places in the levels specifically designed for Blink usage. The devs have said it was a tool to make the player think about the verticality more as well as give them stealth options faster than waiting for patrols to be over. Fast stealth became a design goal and Blink was a big part of meeting that.
In other news, I've finished a few runs through Roundguard, a game best described as a Roguelike Peggle.
A few other games have done the RPG puzzle game thing before but haven't been run-based through randomized rooms (the rooms themselves are clearly deliberately designed as you kind of need that for this kind of puzzle game but what version you get is randomized). Roundguard also does the Rogue approach to mystery potions. As with almost everything else, you interact with them by hitting with your hero-ball launched from the top of the screen. It also can be a challenging game and while someone that mastered Peggle might be able to carefully plan things out, most people are likely to see their character bounce wildly between enemies and other hazards. My last run, the first success I had out of easy mode, almost came to an end towards the finish as I accumulated an absurd amount of poison and bleeding stacks from bouncing into spiders in the face too many times in short succession. Luckily my rogue was able to use his double-jump skill to land on health restoring resources and eked through into a treasure room where a trinket I had let me restore back to full health.
It's not going to be for everyone. Part of Puzzle Quest 1's broad appeal was its relaxed nature that let you retry lost fights later among other things. This is a much more kinetic game where even which room to enter next can be thrown off by bouncing the wrong way after clearing a room. But it's a unique mix of trying to plan and unpredictable results. If you enjoyed Peggle back in the day then this is worth considering.
8.5/10, even puzzle games are improved by having a double jump.
Reinstalled Pathfinder Kingmaker and tried out the new turn based mode.

I do wonder how long it'll take to beat the game with that, there's like billion battles and it's not like it is a short game even with the RTWP mode. Other than that I'm all for more turn-based RPGs, if it had been turn-based to begin with maybe I would've finished it instead of getting bored and quitting at about 40 hours in.

After Divinity: OS 1 came out, there seemed to be a collective realization among gamers that RTWP always had been a compromise to get Baldur's Gate 1 made at a time when the RTS genre booming and Diablo 1 introducing many to the Action RPG caused many game companies to shy away from turn based games. Given a choice, very few would have preferred RTWP. And a big part of why it was able to work is that low level 2nd edition D&D was pretty slow paced. Once you started hitting multiple attacks a turn and enemy spells/abilities you really wanted to interrupt in BG2: Throne of Bhaal, RTWP started to break down.
I also think some overestimated how popular RTWP was. It was only really Infinitiy and Aurora Engine games, so just D&D and Star Wars d20 games (Arcanum defaulted to RTWP but I'd bet most people quickly changed it to turn based). It just happened to coincide with the rest of the genre on PC having cratered rather spectacularly with Black Isle going poof during Interplay's collapse and Ultima, Might and Magic, and Wizardry all failing to adapt to the times with the latter two especially struggling now that RPG players kind of expected characters with personality and the former floundering with whatever the hell Ultima 9 was.

I dunno, RTWP moves a lot smoother if the vast majority of your actions are going to be basic autoattacks, with only a character or two needing active micromanagement. Especially if you can program boring warriors and basic healing to be automated. DAO struck a good balance since only mages really needed to be microed. PoE is where it started to break down for me, the AI is great for warriors and rangers and even ones that built up MP over time like ciphers and chanters. But mages and priests have spells on rest instead of per encounter just stressed me out, and their spellbooks were just way too wide compared to the much more limited chanter and cipher spell lists.
And when you make even basic warriors have skill lists almost as long as mages like divos? Obviously that's out the window. And it's probably boring game design to have basic attacks be the bread and butter of the combat anyway, espcially now that designers have broken free of the ADnD design paterns and realized that per encounter skills are much more engaging than per-rest

Yeah, I loaded up Steam to install it while I worked... To be greeted with a flash and saying it was done. I so missed the screen where it says how big it is to download so had to go look up the page and saw how small it is. Think it is actually like 23 meg download. I miss those days when that was big.
