Nvidia Shadowplay, variable frame rate and Sony Vegas Studio

I've been doing videos of the small Arma coop sessions I'm running, using the latest Vegas Movie Studio - but lately I've realised that there are syncing problems between the video and the audio of the footage I've been capturing. A quick search suggests that this might be because Shadowplay records with a variable frame rate, which Vegas seems to have problems with.

What's the best solution to this? I've found posts suggesting that I could run the videos through Handbrake first to convert them to constant frame rate. How well does this work? What kind of settings are best? Or is there an entirely different approach that might work better?
