Tales of Final Dragon Ocean: A JRPG Thread

I was wondering what you meant and yep I unlocked Adol's strongest level-based skill at level 13. I wondered why it was so much better than everything I had so far.
But it kind of works?

The difficulty curve on that game is wack
It was less the difficulty and more that I just can’t help myself farming in those two spots and lose focus every time. Dunno why.
it's also one of the first real points to actually grind ap, which is sorely lacking prior to that point
Get me to the anime bullshit already
Well a lot of those quests were designed to be done with a full party at those levels, or even more people.
The AF quests for instance were added to the game when the cap was 60 or 65, but some of the more difficult ones were done with an alliance instead of a party.

Also these quests are about 90% of the screen time for second(??) Adol, which feels kinda crazy because figuring out what the hell is going on with that is one of the biggest questions this plot has right now.
gonna get my thief to 32 and then try my artifact chest piece again
What job are you doing stuff on?

Warrior. I'm main Warrior/sub Thief and it's worked out pretty well for me.
With trusts that's probably fine for now. I'd advise getting /sam, /drg, and /nin available to you once you start doing more jobs. /sam gives you abilities to boost 2 handed options and /nin gives you dual wield. (/drg also gives you strong 2 handed options for weapon skills, it'll be a bit later that it's more useful than /sam)

The absolute area really confuses and aggros those beastmen.
All 3 times, I’ve misjudged the moment I should summon my trusts
To be fair, BEFORE the teleporter/door that warns you WOULD make way more sense
Edit: I have now “beaten” Final Fantasy XI.
Some real New Game + vibes there
The Elvaan are even bigger jerks than the Humes and I’m sort of starting to see the Shadow Lord’s side here
Ok that's even weirder that it happened for you too. Like either it's just triggering at the wrong time or some baffling design.
But yea I'm in the final chapter now and it's still the best move I have. So much damage and HUGE aoe.
Still don't quite have the final book skill but I should get that soon so I can at least use it for the final dungeon...
Yes the side quests have a lot of very direct links to the main story which is nice.
The chapters are pretty formulaic in the set up but everything works so well that I really do not mind.
Have had a blast with the game and even the story mysterious kept more interested than I expected from a Ys game.
I am pretty sure I should be in jail.
Don’t worry, you verbally challenged them, so that’s the benign version of beating the crap out of everyone in a city.
The mean version involves siccing wild animals on them when they aren’t looking.
Oops
Guess I’ll get him after I finish Windurst now
Got my ultimate gear.
All I got left is the special boss and the final dungeon.
On that I gotta say something I really appreciate: All the side stuff is available on this playthrough.
None of that bullshit locking stuff behind the end boss(Looking at you right now P5 Strikers..) or anything. It's all there so you can decide for yourself when you want to do it.
Thank you Ys 9!
One of the Windurst missions threw me a curveball by requiring either a specific party (impossible to solo) or a lengthy quest chain to open the backdoor
Got through it though and killed the Shadow Lord a third and final time
Now suspending my subscription and gonna play some non-MMOs for a bit
Goddamn anime.
Was that the door where you needed a Red, White, and Black Mage to stand on the floor tiles? I never did the missions for the other cities, just for Bastok, but I remember when a friend from my first linkshell found those when the NA version of the game was only a week old, and invited me to come be his Black Mage to stand on one of them so we could find out what was inside. So I made the trek from Bastok to Windurst for the very first time as a level 14 Black Mage with no sub job. Just the journey took about an hour and a half. And then we opened the door, and immediately got wrecked by the shit on the other side that was completely out of our league.
That’s the one!
There are level 90 mobs in that area and it’s expected for you to stealth there.
You can also do a 6-quest long chain that then gives you an extra quest that gives you a key that opens the sewers in Windurst, and by backtracking through there you can get to the backdoor of Horutoto ruins and finish the mission that way.
It was the only major speed bump as I did San d’Oria and Windurst at level 65 over about 3 days.
Problem is, lower level players still have to go through there. Now there are also a bunch of options to get past those (Sneak/Invis, Unity warp, sometimes using a mount) but you got shit like, the only way to the glaciers is go through a tunnel that has those, and the second limit break (and rank 5 missions) are in the glaciers, so you NECESSARILY have to confront this at level 55 at most
I don't know whether to be impressed or depressed about how much I remember. I've made it to Bleak without needing to consult a FAQ once. I even instinctually remembered to save the rediculous 65K GP for that fucking gold bar in Aurelia. Perhaps I'm simply a BoF savant.

BoF 1 (and 2) are really good for what they are. Though I'll stick to the GBA versions with there lower encounter rate.
