i was thinking a lot about awful episodes the simpsons could make to comment on 2020 and the covid situation and the most pessimistic thing i could think of was that they try to be deep about it by making grandpa die

wow
that's really really dark
he would develop unrelated kidney problems the day before he was scheduled to get the vaccine
I remember an episode of The Simpsons where Springfield was being considered as a venue of the Superbowl for some reason? But when the NFL commissioner or whoever was coming to town they renamed all the streets after coaches so he couldn't find where the hotel was so he stopped at the Simpsons' house to ask to use the phone for directions but Abe Simpson was watching some Faux News fearmongering piece about strangers asking to use the phone to get inside and then tying you up and stealing things so he beats the NFL commissioner up and Springfield doesn't get selected because of that.
And you'd think that was the end of the episode but no that's the first five minutes because now the whole town is mad at Abe Simpson so he decides he's going to do assisted suicide, which involves him hooking up to an enormous iPod or something. Except he changes his mind at the last moment, why exactly I forget.
But no that's also not the end of the episode because for whatever reason the way he gets the will to live back also motivates him to become a bull fighter which is convenient because Springfield has built a football stadium that isn't being used so they use it as a bullfighting ring.
Anyway this is still only halfway into the episode and of course Lisa is moritifed at the animal abuse that is bullfighting so she convinces Abe to give up bull-fighting and also free all the bulls, which run wild in the streets as Lisa and Abe in full matador regalia look down upon the chaos in a hot air balloon.
And that's the end of the episode, and this was also like ten years ago so I assume the show has declined even further since.

When a person is filmed or video taped or recorded we might say that some aspect of them has been captured and "immortalized," and that even if that person passes on some part of them lives on through these images and sounds. It's not the same thing, because no recording can capture the totality of a human life, but there is nevertheless some truth to the notion.
Grandpa Simpson, being a fictional character, is nothing but images, sounds, and written words. Therefore, even if his death were to be depicted, he would continue to live on in the form of the previous episodes, comic books, novelizations, and fan fiction
Grandpa Simpson could only truly "die" if all copies of all media depicting him were destroyed, and given the proliferation of the Simpsons media franchise this is likely not possible. At minimum he will outlive the human race.

It's fine, either the Patriots will decide that Grandpa Simpson is unnecessary information that the human race should stop perpetuating, or they'll decide that he must be allowed to continue due to his critical importance to the human id.

What war is grandpa Simpson supposed to be a vet of now?
Was he in desert storm

It was treated as a serious death. I wanna say it was About a Bart? Which I feel would have been an ideal series finale. Also its a good alt future instead of this weird I can do futurama too shit Al Jean keeps bringing back
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.

I remember that scene in Indiana Jones, where he has to spell out God's name on those collapsing tiles, and goes for 'A', but it almost collapses because he forgot that the original spelling was Æbe. Good stuff.

they're gonna have bigger problems because Dan Castenella voices Homer, Krusty, Willie, Barney, and so on

Undoubtedly
Heck they could probably get a passable homer out of Hank Azaria or one of the other original voice actors
Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
I doubt the other VAs would do that, honestly

well it doesn't help that the reason they killed her was her voice actress wanted more pay

Just to be extra petty.
I’m pretty sure everyone has at least once, if you include the Halloween episodes.
What is wrong with you.

They'll invent a new character voiced by a celebrity and kill them off instead
