Pillows recs for neck pain?

Howdy folks!

I carry like all my stress in my shoulders and clench my jaw in my sleep, so my neck is often A N G R Y and I've always been very picky about pillows

About two years ago one of my top vertebrae slipped out of place briefly after sleeping wrong and (despite a lot of physical therapy and doing all the special stretches) I just CANNOT seem to figure out a pillow setup that isn't just totally uncomfortable. I've been hesitant to invest in any kind of special pillows because it seems really hit-or-miss (and I have like no $) but now it's been getting worse again so I'm !! Kind of at the end of my rope and have decided to try to find something that helps! So if you're a person with neck pain, let me know if you've had any pillow luck! I am mostly a stomach and side sleeper btw (but largely because I can't lay on my back without my neck really hurting)!

I used to be hesitant to recommend this pillow because they had an incredibly shitty Kickstarter campaign where I was lucky to get the pillow I paid for, but they're now available for general sale and the second one I bought had been noticeably improved from the first, which I already considered the best pillow I've ever owned.

They are absolutely fantastic and I don't expect I'll ever want another pillow. They're supportive enough for my head/neck but also soft enough that they don't make my arms go numb underneath them. Absolutely worth the money.

From my own xperience with pillows and neckpain and jaw clenching a sidenote: Have you ever gotten your teeths/jaws checked out for misalignment by a denstist or orthodontist?

What helped me more than any pillow was getting a occlusal splint for the nights (because my orthodontis back when I was a teen made some questionable choices)

I had an issue where I was sleeping on my stomach with my neck in weird positions, causing neck pain when I woke up. I bought a shaped memory foam pillow on Amazon that makes it uncomfortable to sleep like that, so I end up in a better side-sleeping position. Getting a less comfortable pillow sounds like a dumb solution but has helped, no more neck pain.

Not a pillow: You mentioned carrying stress in your shoulders. Do you ever use sleep/meditation apps that talk you through avoiding that?

I bought one of these after reading your post and so far I absolutely love it

The memory foam still heats up slightly more than I want but it's incredibly supportive and I'm not waking up drowning in sweat like I do with other memory foam

A good, low temperature bamboo pillowcase may mitigate the memory foam heat effect. Things like bamboo sheets can really stay cool well for a long time.

Though, from experience, stay cool is a relative thing. Nothing will stop a high-body heat person from sweating when its warm or humid in the bedroom, but it does make a difference in general feeling of temperature for me. Your miles may vary.
