I'm super happy to see Veny/ASUKA announced for the AEW tournament. She was supposed to make her US debut last year during WrestleMania weekend, so this is a pretty great alternative.

That's a shame. I just got rid of my Roku box this past weekend. As much as I enjoy NJPW I don't see myself buying another device just to watch the English version of stuff I can probably watch on World.

the hidden gem waiting in this inner circle nonsense isn't a tag match, but sammy vs mjf singles, which has every chance to be great

i hope they somehow break off the tag match and do that instead... or Sammy gets Wardlow to sabotage MJF/Jericho at a critical moment

there's a lot of stuff they COULD do in this storyline but my main frustration is they're dragging it out so long and there haven't been many high points during the wait

this is a discord of mostly PA people interested in fighting games: https://discord.gg/DZWa97d5rz

It sounds like this will be similar to the old AXS show, essentially the big matches with some additional English promos and content. It's definitely a good move for the company, but redundant for English speaking fans who already have NJPW World.

    Open the forbidden Roku door.

Anyway Meltzer said deal is essentially done between NJPW and AEW, though the ongoing pandemic is going to keep most of the big names from showing up on either show. KENTA was able to show up in part because he lives in Orlando.

I think it's a recent development as the last time he did an appearance I don't believe he was using them.

He was never a big bumper but he did work into his 60s so you gotta figure that takes a toll.

I was watching some 2000 era WWE, which is when I got into wrestling and it reminded me that for all it's faults, one of the biggest strength of that era was seeing every wrestlers interact. Obviously you still knew who the main stars were, but they interacted with the midcard and it made those guys look better.

It really hit home with Too Cool. They're a goofy team, clearly not going to be long term stars but the crowd was behind them and WWE actually pushed them. They end up helping out the Rock and Mankind in an amazing 10 man tag match and end up getting a short title reign.

    No way that currently happens.

Some more news on the AEW women's tournament from folks involved:

    (twitter translate)
Rin Kadokura participated in the side JAPAN tournament.

side JAPAN will be recorded in Japan with no audience.

The side JAPAN winner will travel to the United States to play the final match with the side USA winner, and the final winner will be able to challenge Hikaru Shida's AEW World Women's Champion.

Please give Rin Kadokura a lot of power!

    #Marvelouspro
    #門倉凛
    #AEW
    #AEWDynamite
Marvelous is a joshi promotion, one of the competitors Rin Kadokura is signed with them

I’m in Japan now!!!! Of course it’s for AEW women’s tournament!
Shida will be there for the Japanese part of the tournament

Also Ice Ribbon wrestler Yappy said on her Twitch stream last night (according to what I read on reddit) that the tournament is being filmed in the Ice Ribbon dojo

By the way, if you want to see a long form examination of Henry's strength capabilities, then here's a great video.

An argument could be made that Henry is legitimately one of, if not the, strongest men who ever lived. He has records that stand until this day from his early 90s lifting career and he never even reached his full potential as a pure strength athlete. And he did it across powerlifting, strongman, and Olympic lifting.

Truly a workhorse, powerhouse, and genetic freak.

Absolutely, but the GTS has always looked terrible regardless of who did it as a finisher.

The WWE Network special on him from a few years ago gave a good overview of this too. Big Show's comments were especially great.

If your response was “who?” That’s Deonna Purrazzo’s boyfriend and was the third Forgotten Son (Blake and Ryker). Apparently after Ryker’s racist tweets got the group broken up, he and Blake were with Corbin for a week

Per Fightful, the reason he was fired is after that week, he tested positive for COVID (attended a New Years Eve party) and thus another plan for him had to be dropped abruptly

Despite WWE already having been the first wrestling company to fire people during a plague, this would also be the first wrestler fired Because Of Getting the plague

See, I heard that he THREW the New Year’s party that got several people sick. Which, if accurate, is a much more reasonable motive for letting the guy go.

I hate to say it but I don't even like that one. It always looks weak to me. It's got all this potential from the falling momentum and then it's ruined by making it safe. And then everyone's botching it too. I remember watching CM Punk having so many issues with it.

    Its a shitty move.

None of that excuses Moxley from botching it as badly as he did and then deciding to flop around like Shawn Michaels.

It's one of those moves that requires too much obvious aid from the one taking the move, and the shoulders bit just doesn't make sense. You're getting less momentum than if you just were free of all that weight and straight kicked the opponent in the face. But once you've built yourself around a move, guess you gotta stick with it. Bryan's running knee is effectively doing the same thing but looks like a million bucks in comparison.

I never liked the way Punk did it by aiming for the head, so he had to make it safe by letting people land first and have their hands up to protect themselves. Kenta's OG version was dropping their full weight chest first onto his thigh, so the knee looked like it rocked their jaw. He didn't always hit it clean, and it looked different based on how the opponent took it, but when it hit right I think it looks brutal.

EDIT - I took way too long to reply to the discussion. But I like that the clip shows him using two moves that were both taken by WWE wrestlers as finishers.

So I got one of my coworkers into AEW pretty close to the start, and he used to watch wrestling but not since like WCW days and before. Basically a babe in the woods when it comes to all the current day talent and companies and etc.
So I had to explain to him the whole deal with Kenta and the IWGP US championship.
But really it was just a gateway for me to show him this tweet:
Jon Moxley is terrified because if KENTA can show up on #AEWDynamite, then there is another that can also collect on old debts...
*picture of Moxley in the ring being haunted by the ghost of Toru Yano*
And then show him the Yano vs Mox match from the G1.
