Rise, Tarnished, and be guided by grace to brandish the power of the Elden Ring and become an Elden Lord in the Lands Between.
In the Lands Between ruled by Queen Marika the Eternal, the Elden Ring, the source of the Erdtree, has been shattered.
Marika's offspring, demigods all, claimed the shards of the Elden Ring known as the Great Runes, and the mad taint of their newfound strength triggered a war: The Shattering. A war that meant abandonment by the Greater Will.
And now the guidance of grace will be brought to the Tarnished who were spurned by the grace of gold and exiled from the Lands Between. Ye dead who yet live, your grace long lost, follow the path to the Lands Between beyond the foggy sea to stand before the Elden Ring.
And become the Elden Lord.

I know the joke with the "they're still waiting for GRRM to deliver his end of it to start!" bit but AFAIK he just gave them some world building specs or something several years ago when he met with Miyazaki/From Software and his part/involvement in it is already done. Anything to keep him from actually finishing The Winds of Winter I guess.

DS2 is a very strange beast (I've only played it once, and only SotFS). I think I liked it but all I really remember about it was it's a very long game on a first play-through, especially if you do it blind

DS2 is a weirdly polarizing game - most people either love it or despise it. It’s not my favorite in the series but it is good and has some neat ideas in there. If you like to get deep into the lore it is very good.
It’s definitely long though, especially with the (very good) dlc.
