this is the best sad song

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nA2i9fOSsOs&ab_channel=Mashrou%27Leila

it's in arabic, but when I saw them live in the before times the singer said it was about mental illness. from the way he sings it, it sounds like a lamentation about the pain and exhaustion it brings, and how you essentially never get a full reprieve from it. there's grief for everything it cost you.

    it's real sad guys!

As a brief break from the sad songs, here's Talisker savaging a catnip sock:

John Prine is another one of those Willie types where he wrote a ton of songs you've always liked and you didn't know he did

Angel from Montgomery is a banger of a sadsong from John Prine
    I am an old woman
    Named after my mother
    My old man is another
    Child that's grown old

    If dreams were thunder
    And lightnin' was desire
This old house would've burnt down
    At a long time ago

    ...

    There's flies in the kitchen
I can hear 'em they're buzzin'
And I ain't done nothin' since I woke up today

How the hell can a person
Go to work in the mornin'
And come home in the evenin'
    And have nothin' to say

    We've all been there

John Prine is another one of those Willie types where he wrote a ton of songs you've always liked and you didn't know he did

I posted this the other day, but in context:

    https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/stephen-colbert-john-prine-duet-976316/

    https://youtu.be/XokTQSGNj3Q

I’d like to take a moment right now to send out a personal message to a friend,” Colbert said. “Last week, our friend — and yours — the musical great John Prine was placed on a ventilator with coronavirus symptoms. My thoughts are with John and his wife, Fiona, and his family. And everybody out there touched by this virus.”
He added, “I’d like to share with you right now one of the happiest moments I’ve had on my show or any show. And that’s when John and I sang a duet in 2016 that we never broadcast, but we’d like to now.”

In the clip, filmed in the Ed Sullivan Theater, Colbert asks to duet with Prine and then notes: “We’ll probably do this for the internet. Unless, you know, something terrible happens and we have to cheer up the world on the TV show.”

And he died like a week later.

If we are posting sad songs I much prefer the melancholic can't escape from yourself and your problems style than the tragedy everyone died in a car crash style.
