may 1st? I don't think I'm going to rush to get the vaccine. my grandfather already has both shots and my mother is signed up for next week, and I've already had corona. I can wait a lot easier than other people.

I had no idea most of that stuff was included in the bill, which really tells you just how disorganized and shitty the DNC is at messaging. There's a lot of good stuff in there that people probably don't know about.

Major news sources are reporting ... Qualifying USA people may see their $1400 Covid relief direct deposit as early as "this weekend"

I see a pending deposit in my banking app, neat

There's a bit of fairly/surprisingly progressive stuff in the American Rescue Plan

    https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/blog/2021/03/10/the-american-rescue-plan-passed-now-what/

This is the easter egg about student loans
'make student loan forgiveness tax-free through 2025'

wait .... does this mean I need to refile my taxes to get $3,600 for my child? Or is that for 2021 taxes?

edit: it is just for 2021

    but hell, I'll take it

Got my vaccine scheduled for Weds at noon, first shot.

And thanks for that info about FEMA reimbursing funeral costs, whenever they update to allow for applications I'm definitely gonna do one for my uncle's funeral.

Lets say, you got a phone call in the middle of the week of someone saying they were setting you up with an appt for the Covid vaccine but they didn't provide anything to prove that, nor an email confirmation, just a confirmation number but nowhere to provide it until the day of the appt presumably.

But then you called the health dept of your county and they said that the day, time, and place in question is a valid one for vaccination

But THEN, you get an email from that same system trying to schedule you for a vaccination on a different day and time for a different vaccine
the 2 shot variety (vs the other one which is the 1 shot)

And one would be Monday (1st of 2) vs the other Thursday (only 1 needed)

    What would you do?

Get whatever shot you can, soon as you can is the general advice right now.

The rescue plan also includes a couple of secret bonus additions I had no idea about

    Taxing the rich!
The act amends Sec. 162(m), for years after 2026, to add a corporation’s five highest-compensated employees (besides the employees already covered by Sec. 162(m)) to the list of individuals subject to the $1 million cap on deductible compensation.

The act extends the Sec. 461(l) limitation on excess business losses of noncorporate taxpayers for one year, through 2027.

The act also repeals Sec. 864(f), which allows affiliated groups to elect to allocate interest on a worldwide basis.

Try for the Monday slot, cancel your Thursday slot if it comes through. Seems like either way you're risking an empty slot, best to maximize the chances of a shot getting into an arm and do what you can to make it a twofer.

Especially because the communications bandwidth between Monday and Thursday is much higher than anything you're going to get between Friday and Monday.

Best shot you can get is the first shot available to you

The efficacy of the vaccines has some variability but they all protect against severe illness by close to 100 percent, and they can be boosted later for variants, and the actual differences may have more to do with the time of year that Pfizer and Moderna were trialled (with no variants) versus J&J, AZ, or Novavax (when variants were out there)

There's an argument for the one shot being more efficient in terms of you not having to go back for a second round but the US doesn't have procurement issues and you'd have extra days of protection here, so

Also that also gives the clinic more time to get someone for the second appointment that week and makes it more likely the shot will go in an arm

Headline of an article I saw yesterday

"Over-30s to be vaccinated by April"

    First sentence of the article

"Over-30s may receive vaccinations in April."

On top of the already silly "give us tax money." "How much?" "guess!" system, for the past few years I was fortunate enough to have a fellowship that net raised my pay as a grad student. But it also meant they paid me more like a contractor, and on top of THAT you have to report your "scholarship tuition" (money that I literally never had. It was just the university moving money from one of their buckets to another one of their buckets, never ever touched any account of mine) as income, but then correctly qualify THAT as exempt income and lord every year it was a fight with turbo tax to figure that out. Because otherwise I'd have an extra 62k in income (on top of my real 30k) to pay taxes on that never existed. Let me tell you the first time I put that info in a little wrong I nearly shit myself because adding double your income when you only paid taxes on your actual income looks like QUITE the shortfall. On top of all THAT during one of the big tax bill hullabaloos they were going to REMOVE the tax exempt status of that money that I never saw. With one bill you'd have lost probably 3/4 of the science grad students in the country, because none of us could afford to pay to go, and sure couldn't afford the taxes on that made up "income"

    Lastly:
WHERE IS EVERYONE'S GODDAMN 2K JOE?!

There's something going on in town. I don't know what it is but I'm mad about it.

I was walking to the grocery store and there's roving groups of people in varying degrees of matching outfits. From like matching Sherlock Holmes hats to matching shirts to a few costumes.

If there's one thing I hate it's events or happenings or God forbid a ballyhoo.

While there is currently insufficient evidence to support Nazi tomfoolery there also is insufficient evidence to rule it out.

There is one story with him and Watson stopping a German spy at the start of WW1 and his final words are patriotically in support of Great Britian so, depending on if he even knew what Nazis were at the start, since from his privileged position, much like the moon, they wouldn't affect him much, the moment the UK declared war on Germany, he would be very much on the UK side.
