The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
There is a squaresoft action RPG called Threads of Fate (also know as dewprism in some regions) that is really good. It has two separate main characters, each with their own storyline (which covers the same stretch of time). The male main character can transform into monsters he's defeated recently, and the female character can use magic spells (which are not selected from a list, but are created by combining a 'color' and an 'effect' from the colors and effects you have unlocked). To get the 'true' endings for the games, you have to beat a character's story using a save file that has clear data from their partner's story (to get the super super true ending you have to beat the game once with a save that has clear data for both characters). It also has music that slaps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHGC_XuSdUg
One thing I remember well about the PS1 was those random fighting games, and a friend and I would end up playing just about any of them.
Which eventually led us to one of the great underrated games of the genre... or at least unrecognised by many. You either don't know of it, or you love it. I give you... Rival Schools.
As someone who didn't own a PS1 but played a lot of it at others' houses, I don't think any single piece of PS1 software will ever be as important to my nostalgia as the demo disc that had Metal Gear Solid, Spyro, Soul Reaver, Die Hard Trilogy... man, I miss demo discs.

I remember the original PlayStation fondly because it was both the big boom and last hurrah for light gun games. Time Crisis, Elemental Gearbolt, Project Horned Owl, Die Hard Trilogy, and the best light gun game ever, Point Blank. Yeah light gun games kept coming on later systems, but the PSX was a golden age for them, especially when the GunCon first came out. And when CRTs going away those older light gun games are getting harder to play.
I've been hunting down PS1 games for my collection. Recently picked up Crash Team Racing which is, in my estimation, severely underrated in the realm of kart racers.
Also, Bushido Blade is one of the best fighting games of all time.
Unfortunately I don’t have my old nes/snes/genesis game ( dad threw them out by accident) but I do have my ps1 games my favorite obscure ps1 game : Micro maniacs . I think it was code masters first game or at the very least the first of theirs I played.
As a dinosaur-obsessed child (as opposed to me, now, a dinosaur-obsessed adult) I couldn't get enough of the objectively uneven, obscenely difficult The Lost World for PS1.
Heeellll yeah. Listen to that world. Gosh it did have great atmosphere. Unfortunately it sold itself on "YOU CAN BE THE T.REX!!!" and, while yes, you can, I would say at least 50% of the T.rex levels have you walking on actual magma, so your health drains constantly even when you're not getting machine-gunned by literal armies of InGen mooks, and to top it off, the rex is a total bear to control.
Huh, I've apparently never seen Bushido Blade before. I thought I had, but I seem to have confused it with something else.
Anyway, Colony Wars! Those games were great. I barely played the first one, but I spent a ton of time with both the sequels. The second one even had a cool branching path story, which blew my mind at the time.
I got a sealed copy of Xenogears. I saw new ones being sold at retail price on Amazon and snatched one up. I guess there was a second print run or someone found some lost stock.

Give me a way to buy Brave Fencer Musashi again, goddammit.
FF XIV - Qih'to Furishu (on Siren), Battle.Net - Ilpala#1975
Switch - SW-7373-3669-3011
Fuck Joe Manchin
I still have the OST, which I got at the time by ripping it directly from the disc, on my current phone. It's made every transition with my music collection.

Yeah. That one is like $180 on eBay. I managed to get it a long time ago when it was cheaper.
I noticed a copy of Medievil that I have must have been polished in a polishing machine. The outer edge of the disc was rounded a little bit.
Fuck, really?
.... I gotta go to the basement.
Tomba 1 and 2 are also in the hundred dollar range.
Those I knew, they were always rare. But Brave Fencer didn't have any value until I guess the last couple years. I've been holding onto it because the going $20-30 was in the "I'd rather keep it" range, but for $180? That'll go.
I think a ran into disc rot with a few of my PS1 discs. I polished my Final Fantasy Tactics, but I was still getting bad sectors when trying to pull an image of it. I found a loose disc to replace it with on eBay.

The UK demo discs were trippy. The US ones were just weird sometimes.

It looks like it is around $50 on eBay. Blarg.
I remember playing a lot of Treasures of the Deep
You can get that one for around $20 on eBay. PS1 games jump around in price nowadays.
I know it is not that rare. eBay inflation.
Often the way. Even games that sold millions command(ed) high prices and people would be like "OMG that's so RARE!". Not necessarily.
Thinking things like non-Greatest Hits copies of FF7 in the early '00s.
Granted, Bushido Blade didn't sell quite as well as that...
