[Destiny 2] To the Lighthouse!

What makes a Guardian… a Guardian? We take our first breath with no memory of who we were before – yet we are inexorably drawn to the Light. We fight, we die… and we live again. We know that we were chosen for a reason by something greater than ourselves. For as deep and wide as humanity’s rivers have run, it has now been reduced to a precious few, needing something to believe in… and a place to call home. This is what we have been called to – the future that we fight for. The future we will protect.

Shaped by the fires of each new battle, we are forged and sharpened into what we must become for the fight ahead.

What we have built is only the beginning – a symbol of what we can achieve, of who we are and our great purpose here. But the day may come when we will be tested. When all we hold dear is threatened. And then, we will see what each of us is truly made of.

Destiny 2: Penny Arcade G&T Saves the Universe and Everything in It, No, Seriously, I Know It Looks like We’re Losing but Everything Is Under Control, We Promise is an online multiplayer action role-playing sci-fi-fantasy first-person shooter for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC and the second title in Bungie and Activision’s ten-year, zillion-dollar Destiny franchise. It’s MMO-like – think gear collection (and dress-up), skill trees and specs, party play, raiding, and PvP – with rock-solid gunplay and wondrous, gorgeous worlds to explore. Beyond all of that, it’s also home to the best damn community in gaming: Pax Arcadia, our systems-spanning network of clans.

A Little History: Our Story So Far
In Year One of Destiny, the Wise and Noble Guardians of PA traveled through space and time in defense of Human, Awoken, and Exo, rising to meet every challenge and ultimately emerging from a year's worth of adventures bearing the spoils of war and the bounty of exotic weapons, sturdy and stylish armor, fortune, and fame. Through our bravery and dedication, we defended The Tower from all who would see it leveled to the ground. Our legend reached the farthest battlefields of the Crucible. We earned the favor of the Queen and protected her Reef from enemies seeking to tear it apart.

At times, our successes seemed inevitable, almost routine. We traveled backward and forward through time; we crushed our foes underfoot in encounter after encounter; we destroyed the heart of a god - more than once. We plumbed the depths of the Dark Below, face-to-hideous-face with Crota, Hive Prince and Son of Oryx. In time, he fell like the rest. We took his wretched, cursed husk and held it aloft as a trophy.

In Year Two, we braved the Dreadnaught, a terrifying frontier, and we beat back the Taken, a twisted menace. We competed against our fellow Guardians in brutal bloodsport, sharpening ourselves into efficient, highly coordinated soldiers of the Light. We returned to the Prison of Elders and tore through its denizens, leaving our mark on its every arena. We remained relentless, undeterred, in the face of overwhelming odds, and together we struck down Oryx, the Taken King. He refused to tolerate our insolence; we refused to tolerate his existence.

In Year Three, Fallen mutants, scavenging the tombs of the Golden Age, unleashed a plague of unimaginable corruption on our world. Grotesque new foes bore down upon the walls of the Last City, challenging us to adapt or perish. Lord Saladin called us to take up the mantle of the Iron Lords, and we obliged. We honored their legacy by rediscovering their history and celebrating a noble, long-buried tradition.

Now, as we enter a new era, our greatest-ever threat emerges from the Darkness to meet us: Dominus Ghaul, leader of the Cabal’s Red Legion. Ghaul believes that the Traveler erred in bestowing the Light upon us; as we begin our journey in Destiny 2, he and his forces will assail the Tower, corrupt the Traveler, and scatter us to the wilds, beyond the relative safety of our city’s walls. For the first time ever, we will enter a world without Light.

But we will enter it together, Guardians. And it will not be dark for long.

Cross-Play Comes to D2!
We finally have the ability to party up across platforms and team up for cross-play shenanigans. @Peen was kind enough to create a new Google Doc for sharing your deets and finding others with whom to party - so check it out, add your info, and find friends for Iron Banner or whatever you need. We're stronger together - and you don't have to go it alone!

Join the Clan!:
We have three separate clan pages on Bungie.net (complete with general chat wall and LFG channels!) for PlayStation, Xbox and PC Arcadians. To join up on your specific platform, please PM @GMaster7 (PS4), @ObiFett (Xbox) or @shryke (PC) and let us know your PSN/Xbox/Battle.net ID and your Bungie.net ID - and add yourself to the bottom of the Mega-Roster (linked below) for your platform of choice. Then, use the below links to send a join request to your platform's clan on Bungie.net. We're looking for players who will be active in-game and here in the thread, so general policy is to keep an eye on inactivity through this excellent tool developed by our very own @Muffinatron (Holy-Promethium) - and to make room for active players when possible. Because we're at war with Bungie's 100-person cap, membership is restricted to forumers.

Of course there’s finally a good scout rifle and they quickly nerf it. I really don’t think it’s necessary, but I’m on console. It’s probably rougher on PC.

My takeaway was that they're just nerfing the hipfire, which seems reasonable to me. You should have to ADS to challenge at range, you shouldn't be able to accurately hipfire from a mile away.

Also if hip-fire grip is getting a buff, does that mean that The Last Word will too? Stay tuned!

Yeah, the TW@B specifically mentions it's only about it's ability to challenge at long-ranges while hip-firing.

One of our raid team has just completed his 70th completion of Deep Stone Crypt where loot dropped from Taniks / he was eligible to possibly get Eyes of Tomorrow.

He still does not have Eyes of Tomorrow.

This is basically the reason I’m not celebrating when popular console games comes to PC, all the balance nerfs are usually then made for the PC version and just shovelled into the console version with no changes.

Division 2 does the same shit.

You’d think they could balance both versions separately but they rarely seem to bother.

I ran some Trials last night to get the 7 round win seasonal challenge done with some friends, and since we were there, go for the three wins and bounty.

I'm always amazed how frequently we face killer teams with gilded flawless titles or 100x runs in these early card matches. We got our wins and stuff done, but it's so silly.

Looks like I'll finish the guardian olympics or whatever it's called, but I think I might have only focused 2-3 engrams this season. The battlegrounds were alright, but getting hammer charges felt slow and laborious. Seemed like I always wound up in the Europa one and I swear there are BGs that I never saw outside of the times it forced you in via the story. Feels like I engage less and less with Destiny. I was deleting my shaders (forgot I had hundreds of them in the bank) and it occured to me, why the fuck am I spending 30 minutes deleting these? Why don't I log in next season and get a message saying, "We converted your shaders to other resources, your glimmer overflowed so here's some tokens you can dismantle later to recoup that overflow." You know, like any decent customer service oriented company.

I've always been apologetic for bungie, "they're small, the codebase is bad(not much of an excuse, that's their fault), activision made them, it's the pandemic" but honestly, maybe they're just a shitty company that needs to fucking clue in and stop putting it on their customers to make up for their shortcomings. Time to stop with the we're listening bullshit and actually do something(s).

  • shrykeshryke Member of the Beast Registered User regular
They've done the whole "convert unneeded resources into something that you can just delete in one go" sometimes. So it does not seem like a lack of desire to make it happen. Usually they give you less if you take that route though.

Battlegrounds were pretty fun but they lose all point from a rewards aspect once you hit 1300. Bungie seemed to miss that the whole upside of Umbrals was focusing a drop into a slot you needed to continue to level. The current version is really only useful to folks who want to farm drops for that 1/100 roll or whatever. For that the process is too long and involved. I've lost count of the number of times this season that I've just gone through and deleted a bunch of umbral engrams because they were blocking Prime/Exotic drops.

    Nod. Get treat. PSN: Quippish
  • shrykeshryke Member of the Beast Registered User regular
The new umbrals are solid. The problem is that the charges to focus them are just way too annoying to get. Getting 2 per Battleground run at max is just insanely slow. Especially compared to how many you get.

  • PeenPeen Registered User regular
There's also just a finite number of good things to get out of them. One I've got a few good rolls of each gun my motivation to keep decrypting them goes way down and decreased drop rate or no I've still been swimming in umbrals, it certainly didn't take the whole season to get the rolls I wanted.

  • Zombie GandhiZombie Gandhi Registered User regular
I maybe would have farmed umbrals more if focusing costs were lower. And if upgrades weren't time gated so much. As it was, i pushed hard early season before unlocking better focusing, then burnt out and ignored the system the back half.

    As is the Destiny way...

  • DiannaoChongDiannaoChong Registered User regular
My excitement about the battlegrounds revolved around having a playground to just pop into and have hundreds to shoot at that was more dense and fun than strikes. That and the weekly challenges sending you back in. The rewards and their structure with the umbrals sucked.

However, I stopped caring about those umbrals and focusing them after week 3 or so like normal, so it kind of became a detriment that after every few activities I had to load into a empty warroom to focus them and then smash whatever came out without looking....

    steam_sig.png
  • shrykeshryke Member of the Beast Registered User regular
I didn't find upgrading the hammer or whatever was really a big issue because they smartly just linked it to the seasonal challenge things you needed to do for bright dust. So I was doing them anyway.

Battlegrounds definitely got boring fairly quickly though. Most are slightly better the strikes playlist, but that's not saying much. It honestly wouldn't be an issue if I could get like 5 charges per run or something. But at 2 charges per run, it's just not worth my time to grind them out.

Bungie likes to hold the story-cards close up until the last week of the season. There's also that (possibly live) event involving the Guardian Games' closing ceremony that might play into next season's story and thus they could be waiting for that to happen first.

Is there anyone that is still running Grandmaster Nightfalls, or would be willing to shepherd me through one before the end of the season? I don't want another season to go by without completing one, especially since its a challenge this year.

I only have a couple friends that are high enough level to attempt them, and they both seemed too burned out to try any more. We were working on the Kargan one and managed as far as getting 2 plates activated with plenty of time to spare, but can't seem to stay alive past that point.

I can play on either PS or Xbox. I am PST and have a pretty flexible schedule this week, I could probably be available any evening. It would also be nice to have some more high level D2 friends. It would be nice to see the end of Deep Stone for once.

    Appreciate any help, thanks.

I feel like Cabal and Fallen stuff has really good story beats and then they inevitably pivot to "The Vex are at it again!" and it's just makes me laugh a little but it's way less fun to dig into narratively.

Probably working from home. Sounded like Gina Torres. So uh, we're living in a vex simulation where they turned off the Sun or what? That doesn't make sense. Or we're going into a Vex simulation where they turned off the sun? I mean, I can run a simulation where I have a full head of hair, but that doesn't give me flowing locks back in meatspace. Finally seeing transmog is pretty bitter sweet, knowing what a fuck up it is.

    New season:
    A twilight city?
    Classic teal and pink pallette?
Those oldschool looking Vex polygon structures?
Sick synth jam in the trailer (better carry over to the game)?
    Hacking the network?

This season is a rad 80s cyberpunk story and is totally my jam
