GOP Sen. Mike Rounds tells me he wants a bipartisan commission focused on just 1/6 — and that if other issues need to be investigated they can decide that later. “We clearly had an insurrection on that particular day, and I don't want it to be swept under any rug,” he says.

Interesting. Rounds was NOT one of the seven senators who voted for impeachment. If we assume they all vote for this commission, then we're already at eight and only would need two more to get it past cloture/filibuster.

He's also a dyed in the wool conservative (anti abortion, anti climate, anti prison reform, anti ACA).

    So... now a RINO?

Can't believe they let a communist into the republican party.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

McConnell has expressed support for it. And given how much trust I have in McConnell following through on his word... we only need two more to get past Cloture.

The dumbasses claiming they are auditing ballots accused Arizona of destroying evidence several days ago.

Turns out they're just too incompetent to handle a RAID array. They had all the data but their settings were wrong so it wasn't visible

Not sure if this is considered coup aftermath related or separate in the fractal nature of Trump scandals, but...
    CNN wrote:
New York Attorney General Letitia James is joining the Manhattan district attorney's office in a criminal investigation of the Trump Organization, James' office said Tuesday.

The attorney general office's investigation into the Trump Organization, which has been underway since 2019, will also continue as an ongoing civil probe, but the office recently informed Trump Organization officials of the criminal component.
"We have informed the Trump Organization that our investigation into the organization is no longer purely civil in nature. We are now actively investigating the Trump Organization in a criminal capacity, along with the Manhattan DA," James' spokesman Fabien Levy told CNN. "We have no additional comment."

Yeah to yell at Sinema they’d need to find her first

Anyway, the GOP backtracked on this because Trump told them to

I love how they declared it slanted and unfair after they already completely neutralized it by getting most of the remands about the thing. It's not like it was going to investigate anything, given it wasn't allowed to issue subpoenas.

The irony of the Blue Lives Matter fuckknuckles siding against police, shows that like the military, farmers and rural constituents, those are only alliances of convenience, easily bussable.

They only like the "blank" that do what they want them to do

I think for this investigation, subpoena power wasn't particularly important. There are plenty of people happy to talk to them about what happened, and the Justice Department can likely get at the ones who are reluctant for the criminal inquiry.

There are plenty of people not happy to talk to them about what happened who would need to be compelled to, and the Republicans are actively shielding them.

They'd do so anyway, but without subpoenas they don't need to worry about being on the record about it.

So 35 republicans voted for the inquiry, pretty bipartisan

Still short on cloture, but the Dems can just make the GOP eat that cause they don’t need the senate to actually subpoena people

I love the special counsel idea as leverage.

Just, go back room with Mitch and tell him this is happening and he has a choice in the matter - he can let the commission happen, or Merrick fkn Garland, a man who goes after white supremacists for breakfast, can appoint a special counsel to dig in with unilateral access.

Put him in a corner in private, make him squirm, and watch him fold. He absolutely would.

True, but the Supreme Court decided the House has no authority to enforce their subpoena's, so that's a moot point now.

    It's the Senate or nothing.

Probably the only person who they might want to testify who wouldn’t comply is McCarthy and I don’t know if I’d be too broken up about him eating all the shit that would come with that

McCarthy is like McConnell, he's stuck purely because he wants power and prestige. As well as fearing a white cross burning on his lawn if he doesn't play his part.

Yup, making the GOP Senate directly in conflict to the GOP House and having to choose sides is probably our best chance at the entire Republican party burning down.
