Killing plants - all the plants

Magus`Magus` The fun has been DOUBLED!Registered User regular
We have a small area (around 5'x10') behind the house that is just massive a breeding ground for weeds.

We want to make it so nothing grows there. Ever. Not grass - nothing. If we could cheaply cover it in cement we would.

I've tried a suggested recipe of vinegar, salt and dish soap and that kind of annoyed some of the plants. I know it can require repeat uses but given how little damage I'm seeing, it would take a dozen applications I feel like.

So, what do I do? We have dogs so I want something non toxic or, at least, would stop being toxic quickly.

Also, in case someone asks: the ground is incredibly uneven and filled with all sorts of rocks and metal pieces (don't ask me from where) so the use of a weed whacker is extremely limited. I wouldn't mind, I don't know, using a shovel but only if the results were permanent or long term.

Thank you!

The honest answer is poison or fire. For my area used poison. So much roundup.

For non toxic on gravel I would go fire.

You can use a small torch too, and they aren't too expensive.
