The Locked Tomb is a (suddenly) four-book queer gothic fantasy series from New Zealand author Tamsyn Muir, with two books currently published and two more slated for fall 2022 and fall 2023!
THE NINE HOUSES make up a great necromantic space empire, ruled over by THE KING UNDYING, NECROLORD PRIME. Each house specializes in its own form of death magic and wages war with spell and blade. The time has come for the Emperor to choose new LYCTORS, immortal necromantic elites of unspeakable power. To that end he has called the heirs of each house, accompanied by their rapier-wielding cavaliers, to attend a series of trials in a SPOOKY-ASS GHOST CASTLE and prove themselves worthy of this honor!
CHILL at florid gothic descriptions of skulls and bones and blood and dust and black robes and pale weirdos and weird architecture!
THRILL at heart-pounding scenes of terror, action....
and romance
SPILL your drink when you find yourself laughing really hard at some dumb joke the POV character made but you can't get mad at all because she's one of the best new genre characters of the last decade at least!
Seriously, if you haven't read these books, they're a heady mix of horror, comedy, action and very gay longing, and if none of this pitch appeals then I am truly sorry for the loss you've sustained
I'm making this thread because it seems like we have enough people reading and discussing them to easily support its own discussion and because everyone else in the book thread is probably getting tired of us reaching critical mass
It's all just about bones.
We're into bonesOpen spoilers for Gideon the Ninth and Harrow the Ninth; please use spoiler tags for Nona and Alecto content, speculation, and leaked material.

News I would say open as well, except recent news seems to reveal the existence of a new character in Alecto.
Some people would (wrongly) consider that a spoiler even though there’s no real context and it’s just a character name, but if it keeps things civil I’d be fine with making the effort.
-Indiana Solo, runner of blades
Is Gideon fair game?
If people are looking for a general non spoilers discussion then the book thread can help them out?

Fine with it either way, I have plenty to read and trust that UNLIKE CERTAIN SERIES this will be resolved in Alecto
"Sandra has a good solid anti-murderer vibe. My skin felt very secure and sufficiently attached to my body when I met her. Also my organs." HAIL SATAN
"Sandra has a good solid anti-murderer vibe. My skin felt very secure and sufficiently attached to my body when I met her. Also my organs." HAIL SATAN
Ideally somewhere in the final 1/3 will be an event that redeems the previous final 1/10
Nona speculation
-Indiana Solo, runner of blades
Ooooo this is good.
I don't remember nearly enough of Gideon or Harrow and I definitely need a reread.
An interesting detail from the paperback extras, some of which are a report by the Second House necro while she's a captive of Blood of Eden, is that BoE has Gideon's body, which will not rot no matter the conditions they store it in
Of course as that takes place between books and the epilogue is sometime later, I suppose that could be Gideon's body, but I just don't know how Harrow's soul would be in it
One of us one of us.
We do bones.
...I'm just writing fanfic now aren't I?
(I honestly parsed it as a portmanteau of Rector and Lich at first)
*flips all the tables*

Are you and Ianthe being safe?
This f'n guy. Would be likeable if he weren't so existentially awful.
He's a terrifyingly interesting premise.

Re: The Emperor
Post Harrow:
My big question is what the hell Al(ecto) is.
My thoughts
Probably just super evil.
Thoughts:
Also everybody: Harrow paperback version is going to have an expanded glossary and a short story featuring
How that sure sucks if you've already bought it huh? Well...Amazon's preview includes the glossary AND the entire short story. Click the "Look Inside" entry on the picture and search for Glossary and then "Intelligence Files" for the short story.
The Glossary clearly lays out some stuff that we have not previously been given good information on.
This is weird, but interesting.
I think that's a solid theory and pretty prevalent among the fans. for now I buy it
are good
Do you have a link? I looked for it and the preview I found was just the first few chapters.
I don’t think so
I don’t THINK he’s lying about that regard, because it tracks. There are nine houses, nine resurrection Beasts, and nine planets in our solar system (which is kinda implied to be where this takes place)
I think there's things John lies about and things he absolutely believes to be true but is dreadfully wrong about, and "I can do the fusion dance with the collective soul of my dead homeworld" is one of the latter
