Thoughts on Gear Implementation in Recent NetherRealm Games

Recently NetherRealm have been implementing some gear/armor/costume systems into their fighting games (i.e Injustice 2 and Mortal Kombat) and I haven't heard much discussion on the topic. Personally I don't care for it. It feels to me like filler content that doesn't change the game TOO much to where it's not an actual strategical battle and instead just one guy battering the shit out of another guy and plowing through him because he had the better headpiece.
