Simple, lightweight Remote Desktop solution?

ThirithThirith Registered User regular
I run regular Arma games for a couple of friends, using a second PC as the server for the game and for Teamspeak 3. That PC is in another room of the flat. If there's something I need to check on it while playing, I have to walk over there, which isn't a biggie, but it still interrupts the flow of the game.

One of the players has suggested that I could control the server via Remote Desktop - which would be easy if the server PC didn't have Windows 10 Home installed, so the native Windows solution doesn't work. I've looked at a couple of freeware apps that should work, and I've installed one called Distant Desktop, so I'm basically set... but I am still curious to hear if people have any RD apps that they like especially, because they're really easy or lightweight or anything else.

    VNC is what you need.

What does that mean in concrete terms? There seem to be a bunch of VNC apps (unless I misunderstand the Google search results), but which one would you recommend?

If it's just teamspeak you want to mess with, there's a command line tool for teamspeak.

What is this I don't even.

It would usually be Teamspeak, but it might also be the Arma server, if something isn't working properly and I have to relaunch it, for instance.

Same here. It's light weight and works from anywhere over the internet, not just in a LAN setting

Sorry. I can see it has gotten more elaborate than when I last downloaded. It used to be a little technical looking, but lightweight, foolproof and handy. Now I see it has developed into different versions, however it seems there is a connect package that is still free for personal use so maybe check that out.

I'll third Chrome Remote Desktop. It's the reason why my media storage PC hasn't had a keyboard hooked up to it for over a year. It is pretty easy and lightweight. All you need to access it is a web browser and your google account.

    Nod. Get treat. PSN: Quippish

Cool, I think I'll check out Chrome Remote Desktop, since people seem to be happy with it. Thanks for all the replies!
