Severed Steel has slomo.
And diving through the air
And instead of reloading you grab guns from enemies.
It's pretty cool. There was a demo, but I'm not sure if it's still available or if it was a time limited thing
I liked it a lot! It is not as good as Hollow Knight, but it is still very good.
One thing that Ender Lilies does better than HK is variety of builds - while in HK you only ever have your Nail, in EL you can "equip" several spirits with different modes of attacking and multiple secondary spirits with additional forms of attacks.
It is also a fun concept that the main heroine is not attacking by herself, but the spirits she purifies during the story join her and protect her instead.
Not to mention, soundtrack is pretty great!

All in all, now I feel slightly empty inside, as one feels after finishing a good game / book / series.
FEAR had some great kicking powers but not enough spikes and pits.
Almost a perfect Dark Alliance of Might and Magic-like.

Alas. I'd never played those games before, but after watching a YouTube channel play 6 and seeing how it's meant to be played I grabbed it off GoG and spent like 50 hours in there last month. "What if first person Diablo, but with hand-crafted, devious dungeons and an optional turn based mode" scratched an itch I never knew needed scratching.
I liked the Legend of Grimrock games fine, but moving on tiles just changes the combat fundamentally, and Wizardry 8's turnbased-only combat turns later-game encounters into a slog.
hey nerdlinger maybe this milk will make you less of a dorkmeister
CW for some messed up stuff

Also if they want to argue "choices," just protestantism and not like a billion varieties for all your sectarian needs?
Atomic Heart is the FPS game.
done and fixed
Theseus can get stuffed
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1227690/Severed_Steel/ demo still here and it's great, it was probably the one I the most during the last Steam demo event

Still haven't decided if I'm going to play through Lobotomy Corporation first; Library of Ruina is a sequel to it story-wise, but the gameplay of Lobotomy Corporation's like SCP management sim which is much less interesting to me.
Library girl's character design is bizarrely reminiscent in both appearance and theme, someone must have been a fan. (not that I blame them, she is best girl)

I started following her on Twitter, and she signal-boosted this incredible piece by Lotus. It's about Pathologic 2, it's about what it means to "civilize" a place, it's about how "civilization" interacts with indigenous people, it's about a lot of things. I really love it.
Man, I could read about Pathologic 2, just, all the fuckin' time.
Hey, thanks for boosting this. I had seen the Asari thing float across my media feed a couple times, but decided not to follow the link because the headline thesis was not that enticing, but I trust your opinion and the actual meat of the article was significantly more interesting than I had presumed.
I've bookmarked the Pathalogic thing for later when I have more time, but thanks for the heads up.
Every chapter or so you unlock AN ENTIRELY NEW PARTY which means you gotta farm/grind to make that party viable half the time since characters start at level 1 oh and certain chapters require certain parties so the grind just never ends.
Also, the hud/overlay/main menu is just a mess that it hurts to look at.
I'm new to her work, but Benfell's pieces strike me as nuanced-enough that I'm not surprised the headline left something to be desired. If I hadn't been totally bowled over by her FFX essay, I'm not sure I would've checked it out.
The hardest so far was getting my crew to mutiny. Feeding them human flesh and giving them nothing to drink still took them a long time to mutiny
I could probably have gone through the game with giving them nothing to eat and just coast off of morale boosts from winning battles at sea
I still have not actually done a ship battle other than just boarding
All the ship stuff is just so disconnected from the rest of the game like attacking ships not even hurting your reputation
Which kind of sucks, because I do like the ship battle system and it's not like those fights are ever going to be challenging or interesting once you've boarded
Okay, but what'd you do in the game?
it's a truly impressive website in its dedication to making itself worse every few months
I've literally just started watching an LP of Pathologic 2, after rewatching hbomberguy's Pathologic video. Hopefully I will remember to read that article after I'm done with the LP.
They are games I like from a spectator position but I know I wouldn't get through if I tried to actually play them.
Not to mention that I find all these types of games for me end up as “turning around” simulators.
Additionally, the thing about Squadrons is that even as a turning around simulator it didn't actually feel very good to turn around

I think I’m looking for something different to what the game wants. Like I want to recreate the feeling of the movies, which involve more cinematic dog fights where you’re following enemies on like a roller coaster with cool sights. Instead it just feels like turning around and around haphazardly. Like I’m sure it’s different for people who are really good at these games, and if they like it I’m happy for them, but I was definitely looking for something different than what the games offering
Which is fine. However I can’t really forgive the naff looking explosions, it’s like come on, that’s what we’re all here to see and that’s the best you have?
Just started playing this game and haven’t gotten past these two, I can never quite tell where I’m getting damaged from. Is there a specific strategy on who to target first? The bull seems the easiest to down but does doing that make Theseus harder or anything?
