Recommend me music! I'm open to pretty much anything, and I'm going on a trip this week so I want stuff to be able to listen to while riding there. I like mostly rock music and indie and some rap.
Hot Chip and Maritime are really floatin my boat these days.

Ratatat, Minus The Bear, Of Montreal, Suburban Kids With Biblical Names, The Unicorns, and Voxtrot is basically the majority of the english stuff that I've been listening to this past week or two.

so I just type in this box and it goes on the screen?
Also, Stellar Road. Small time Chicago band but they have good stuff and do shitloads of life shows around the city in bars and stuff. If you can get the chance, go see them sometime, it's worth it.

Whats with all the little-knowns
Go for some Muse, alot of their stuff is damn slow, but some of their songs are totally epic.
eg.
Citizen erased - My god, the opening, just... my god
Hysteria - Main rift, will make you want to fly kick a granny because you can
Sunburn - Very pleasant piano intro, nice bass
Muscle museum - A good one, though not as good
Exo-politics - Nice drive
Supermassive black hole - Some electro for good mix
The Small print - Along the lines of Hysteria, without the lady crushing
Some of my favorite road-tripping music is stuff that creates a fabric of characters and interactions become revealed as you listen to the songs several times. The best examples of this are The Hold Steady (Lifter Puller, the band that became the Hold Steady, is even better for this, but is hard to find. Is there a way to check to see what is available with a Zune Pass?) and The Streets' second album, A Grand Don't Come For Free.
David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
The Cure - Disintegration
Marilyn Manson - Mechanical Animals
Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun
Elliott Smith - XO
Elliott Smith - Eithor Or
Radiohead
The Verve - A Northern Soul
Wu-Tang - Enter the 36 Chambers
Jeff Buckley - Grace
Nas - Illmatic
Notorious BIG - Ready to Die

Already have Disintegration, Agaetis Byrjun, Either/Or, everything by Radiohead but nothing else on that list. I've heard some of Mechanical Animals and actually right before I read this I downloaded Ziggy Stardust off it. Not feelin much rap right now but I've been lsitening to the Verve a lot so I'll grab that and Urban Hymns.

Sweet.

Because we'd rather not suggest bands like Green day which have sold out.

Sweet.

Edit: I think I've got enough guys. Thanks for all the recs!
Alice In Chains - Dirt.
Soundgarden - Superunknown / Badmotorfinger.
Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking.
Oasis - Definitely Maybe.
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik / One Hot Minute.
Van Halen - 1984.
AC/DC - Powerage.
Aerosmith - Rocks.
Faith No More - Epic.
Pretty mainstream as far as rock goes but they're all pretty badass.
Edit: Whoopsie, took to long hah .
Especially the new album.
Just because they "sold-out" doesn't mean you shouldn't listen to them.
I just despise their music.
Popularity or money making should have nothing to do with it.
On another note, a song i found yesterday wich I'm enjoying:
Polyamorous - Breaking Benjamin
J5 are really great for just chilling out, I find, and "Swing Set" off quality control is the happiest piece of music ever recorded,
Specifically, Analphabetapolothology Disc 1.
