Meanings of Songs?

Hey there guys, I have been looking for a while now for a website to look up various song lyrics and various meanings behind these songs. I haven't really had too much trouble about the lyrics but some meanings in the lyrics themselves are left up to speculation. This isn't like a huge priority or something but some songs for instance could benefit from some enlightenment. For instance, "Gimmie Shelter" by the Rolling Stones has been considered "Our generation's national anthem" by Keith Richards, but I have other songs that are older and I'd really like to know what was on the minds of the artists in that year and such. I have no real wierdo ancient bands I want to look up but I think it would just help to better understand the song better and appreciate what it really means.

Thanks.

    songmeanings.net

it's not official, but it's fan interpretations.

you might want to try wikipedia for song meanings. Why, just tonight, I figured out the meaning of the entire Blue Album by Weezer

Yeah, I already found that site for lyrics, but again, I'm looking for maybe a good paragraph of information like. "This song was written during the Vietnam era and the chorus refers to soldiers dying far, far away... etc. etc. etc."

You could do research on the era in which the song was written and the artist's background and draw your own conclusions which is a lot more satisfying than simply accepting something you read online.

Your best source for information is going to be interviews with the artist. It's pretty easy to google that information up as well.

I really like the concept of SongMeanings.net, but some of the responses are pretty dumb.
I heard somewhere that if a song makes you shiver, then it's a good song.

Uh...alright? I heard from a guy that if the weather makes you shiver, it's cold outside.
