The Animatrix is still one of my all time favorite media tie-ins to a movie franchise ever. I consider it better than either of the sequels.
That and Path of Neo, which is a wonderful game honestly.

Animatrix fucking rocked. 18 year old me was hardcore into that Heavy Metal-esque animated collection theme.

The Matrix
I wonder if part of the movie is the machines reverse engineering agent smith's ability to transfer into a living human, and bringing in human minds into the machine consciousness. Maybe to bring about a new being, the best of both the humans and the machines.
If there's one thing I learned from living through the original Matrix trilogy it's that any speculation about future films based on either the content of the available films or trailers for those upcoming films is utterly pointless because you're probably going to get werewolves and wizards instead.

The only VHS tape I have left is of the original movie, with a glossy metallic effect on the lettering and the famous 'raining code' decoration.
I was looking for some stuff and stumbled upon this article...From 2019?! It comes off like someone who read the back cover of the DVD case and decided to be contrary:
I feel like if the matrix is one thing (it's not, it's a lot of things) it's a direct critique of gen-x enuui in the face of impending technological and environmental doom. The main character literally wakes up to find the war was already lost.
Just an impressively shallow take from this person at the BBC.

The flaws can be applied to pretty much any power fantasy flick and that editorial change is just *vomits*.

The Matrix
Was trinity superhumanly flexible? Does she extend her limbs to unlock doors on the other side of the room or slip under a door jam or something? I guess I don’t remember the first movie that well, maybe I need to watch it again.
I certainly have no love for the sequels but it says something that the original is still good enough today that I’m actually excited for a new film. The trailer is good and I hope Resurrections turns out well. I’m very curious where they might take the story in today’s hellscape climate.
Also, is this the first film to only have one Wachowski working on it? I’m unaware of any project either of them did by themselves.

Yeah that's what threw me for a loop cause I was worried there was family drama, but according to chat and the news all is well.

Matrix 4 is Lana only. Sense8 season 2 was Lana only. Work in Progress is Lilly only.
Just remember that half the people you meet are below average intelligence.
Lilly should solo direct Matrix 5 and then they come back together for Matrix 6.
I wonder how much of this new movie is Warner Brothers trying to revive their IP into the next MCU. The Matrix used to be a big thing with lots of extra content (I think there was even an MMO at one point?) but it faded away over time.
Rewatched the Mateix last night cause yah, having HBO Max is useful for that.
That movie still makes me feel things and want to do stuff with that setting
To this day, I'm an avid Shadowrun follower and GM.
I once asked the FASA folks about how they felt regarding the movie being called The Matrix, as at the time Matrix was under FASA's copyright.
Turns out, their copyright only covered board games and the like, and it's not like they could compete with a major studio like Warner Bros anyways.
So I always chuckle about that.
So their reaction was probably something like "oh thank god a legally clear-cut rights division"
Also I feel like "Watch 'The Matrix' high as shit" is a thing I should do. That seems fun.
Given that they likely took “Matrix” from Gibson’s Sprawl trilogy, would they even have much of a case?

The Matrix
Rewatched the original tonight, first time since 2018 I think. Still excellent film, but the last act is like jam packed action that doesn't stop. Still noticing new things.
Neo's last exit is at the hotel where Trinity does the notorious kick at the start.
You can see the Matrix code very faintly in the background of the screens where the phone calls are being traced.
Friend's name in the beginning is Choi, when my entire life I thought it was Troy. The girl with him is named DuJour... Choix Du Jour, "choice of the day" in French. He also has some great lines. "You need to unplug man. Yeah I know, this never happened you don't exist. Hallelujah, you're my savior, my own personal Jesus Christ."
Switch is wearing a see through shirt through like all of the end of the second act where they are in white. They are also, as far as I noticed, the only one of the crew that wears white.
All I know is Trinity had the best one liner of 1999.
...dodge this
The depth of field camera effect really drove it home too. She was so bad ass.
"Can you fly that?"....."Not yet".
No but she could somehow perfectly identify what type of helicopter it was, yet didn't know how to fly it.
No but seriously, can we talk about the choice of song for the trailer? That was so good. So good. And they definitely didn't use just the pure original song track, but it was definitely the original song, but with some cinematic music layered in on it.
Very hyped to get into the soundtrack of the new movie
Overall I liked it on a rewatch. The 100 smith fight and the rave scene weren't great but the car chase and Merovingian bits were excellent. The "there's been 5 of these before you" thing made more sense to me this time around and was genuinely interesting. Curious to watch Revolutions and see if that's as bad as I remember.
Still it would be better if the humans were used as processors instead of batteries.
I would have had it so that the humans aren't actually being used for anything, and the machines are just spending a ton of their already scarce resources on keeping humanity alive and happy while also preventing them from being a threat. All of the electricity collection stuff is just part of an attempt to recycle as much of the loss as they can.
The Matrix released on a Wednesday. My older brother asked me if I wanted to go see a movie and I looked at him skeptically, because it was a Wednesday, and asked what movie. He said I dunno, there's a new Keanu Reeves movie that opens tonight that looked pretty good.
It was a Wednesday and a school night but it was gonna be a 9pm showing so sure why not? If nothing else it meant that I'd be up longer in a legitimate sense rather than the no I'm totally going to bed I promise sense.
We watched the movie along with the entire theater in total silence. No one cheered. No one gasped. No one made any sounds at all. Though I guess for the record that's pretty much the norm here. When the credits rolled that continued. Everyone shambled out of the theater in complete silence.
This was the same for my brother and I until about halfway home I said "So... lemme get this straight. Everything that's happening now is actually happening in the future in a computer simulation?" and he replied "Yep"
And I get that's not a novel concept for people who have steeped themselves in sci-fi novels but for my brother, myself, and everyone in the theater that night who had just been introduced to that concept on the big screen?
That shit was mind blowing.
I went to school the next day in a daze. Still trying to figure out how I prove reality isn't fake. I had no answers. To anyone who talked to me about being out of it all I could muster was to mumble "Just... just go watch The Matrix"
It's not fair to the sequels at all but there was literally nothing they could have done to follow that experience.
The Matrix was the first time I found myself wishing I could just forget everything about a piece of media and watch it again for the first time blindly.
Matrix is a movie series I'd like to be explored in prequels, showing the original man/machine war, exploring the origins of Morpheous and Trinity and showing their adventures before they meet Neo. Get Samara Weaving as Trinity.

I want to see the story of the perfect matrix being destroyed because humanity can't accept paradise. Probably a small group of shitheads ruined everything for everyone.
Watching Reloaded for the first time since it came out. God, there are so many long, boring conversations that sound like the writers just took Philosophy 101 and can’t wait to bore your arse off about it.

Matrix 1.0 is burned to the ground.
Gimme the fucking mask. A world where there are no hungry, no dipshit fascist, no violent, gun toting men looking to oppress people? If I can't tell the difference between that reality and the "real" world, sign me the fuck up.
It’s funny how time changes your opinion on thing. 19 year old me hated Cypher and thought he was beyond contempt. 41 year old me, he gets why that deal was so tempting.
