Hello, my name is sometimes Brom Prettanike and I’m here to reveal to you the secrets of the Tarot.

Secrets!
1. It’s not just the Major Arcana.
2. Death is easier understood as Transformation.
3. If a card is upside down it means the opposite to what it usually does.
4. They’re just a meditative aid; they can’t foresee your future.

Post cool Tarot cards or ask me to do you a simple “situation, action, outcome” three card spread, I guess.

I only know of him bc of Dune, I think, but it looks charming
I'm digging through my wishlist of decks, but Slow Holler is damned cool; that limited palette is so striking.

I saw this oracle deck awhile ago, and oh no, there's a limited edition!
    SScards4.png
It's very pretty, but I'm not sure it grabs me.

On the complete opposite end, everything by James R. Eads is eye candy. I haven't done any Lenormand but his deck might put me there.

..ngl, been coveting this one for years, and it's most likely the next I'd get:

The Fantastic Menagerie is amazing, and this publisher seems to put out interesting and high quality decks, but , ya gonna pay a pretty penny!

Originally, they were a preorder bonus for Tactics Ogre on the PSP. But my cards got destroyed in tornado so cj iwakura sent me his very kindly to replace them.

What’s troubling you? Tell me something you feel you’re having trouble overcoming.

On the other hand if you’re not comfortable doing that I’ll just flip three cards over and we can look at ‘em for fun.

    I want a tarot deck

Also I'm kinda at a crossroads now myself. Maybe I should have you draw 3 for me.

I've got a lot going on that's rough to get into and maybe it'll help me reframe it a bit in my head, just as a thought exercise.

Were all in relationships—I’m not talking purely carnal over here. Connections. We’re not alone, even when we feel it. That said, few relationships are equal. Ask yourself, who is taking more than they give? Or is it you that needs to create that balance? What can you do to change this relationship to better suit you?

We rightly fear the unknown, and the pain it can bring. However, some self-sacrifice is required to bring about change. Think of it has burning away rot so new shoots can grow. You need a change of perspective; so ask yourself, what new thing must I try?

This guy represents restlessness and curiosity. You’re not yet the master of your skill, or even know what that skill is. You’re on the road, learning as you go, but you have great potential. Never lose sight of that. You might feel like you’re struggling to make the peak of the mountain, but you are ascending, and so long as you keep going you’ll make it no matter what gets in your way.

Dang that really does help me think about it a little different.
I'm in a rutt of toxic thoughts and a cycle of isolating myself from people who care and even pushing away people closest to me because I'm often unwilling to be as kind to myself as they are to me, thinking no one could ever handle what I actually put myself through so I just lock myself up with myself and just make it worse. I had a falling out again with my closest friend because of a death of another friend bringing up a bunch of bad memories and trauma from our past together and I guess I'm trying really hard to see a future for myself without them in it and have been kind of unwilling to consider it because of that drive to isolate and stay the same instead of take a chance in my life to change things.

    Thanks e_s

Whether you want to admit it, you are in a position of power in your life. With power comes an ability to express compassion. Will you pull the ladder up behind you, or give a helping hand to someone less experienced?

Your primary obstacles are not physical, yet are far more difficult for that. Only through attaining greater knowledge can you overcome them—so seek out a teacher. The road to happiness starts with realising you don’t have all the answers.

You are at a crossroads. You must make a definite choice; if you try to be two people at once you’ll find yourself unable to commit to either route. You’re only human, there’s nothing wrong with deciding what thing you have time and energy for. Let the other go.

I would really love a reading about my work/job situation.

I recently got a great job, but I can't get comfortable. Everything about it is good, except the pay, which feels low for the skill set they're demanding, and also I have an inexorable sense of dread about the whole thing.
Also worth mentioning, this job is the only form of income for me and my family.

Tradition is in your way. There’s a lot to be gained from the past, but equally you are here in the present, and need to put your own stamp on things. Ask, what must be changed? How can I forge my own path?

Seek positive feminine forces to balance your heart; or to say that less wishy-washy, talk to your wife more. An outside opinion on your job is gonna help, even if she’s not familiar with the ins and outs. Don’t bottle up what you do and how it makes you feel.

Don’t settle for where you’re at. Aim higher. Way higher. You’re a F1 bulldozer. Life is and will continue to take its toll, but you decide how you face those challenges. Consider taking an active interest in the inner workings of the job, and ask what courses are on offer, if any. The better you are at it the sooner you can get away from your current role.

    Yeah just purposely bad shuffling.

I don't do physical reversals right now because, idunno, aesthetics? But I figure out from context whether the card works to encourage or discourage its associations. Figurative instead of literal, I guess.

So, Death can mean that I need to consider the balances & transitions in my life regardless, the Devil my choices & assumptions (the usual definition has to do with material pleasures, the shadow self, unhealthy attachments & traps, which to me = hey, good or bad decisions?), Tower is unexpected change, conflict, instability...
    google wrote:
The Hanged Man is the card that suggests ultimate surrender, self-sacrifice, or being suspended in time.
Upright keywords: Breaking old patterns, Circumspection, Letting go, Metamorphosis, Suspension
Reversed keywords: Egotism, Inability to change, Missing an opportunity

Okay, for example: to me, the root meaning here is choice, potential energy, and patience -- a state of pause that can either lead to growth or stagnation, but this is the moment of consideration & opportunity, ie, mindfulness without retreat from a situation (vs the Hermit.) But also encouragement to take a different perspective, or embrace one's independent thinking before making a decision.

I'm pretty self-aware, so especially with prodding, I can generally recognize when I'm stuck in my ways or need to trust my gut more. So pulling the Hanged One is a reminder to take that time to consider, and assess my decision-making, ie, what am I basing this choice on (vs the Devil, which is more: what choices are you making? ...Are they healthy?) Alternately, it is a reminder to hang out and stop overthinking, surrender to the moment, Wu wei.

    The Devil
Excess, falsehoods and materialism are all in the Devil’s ballpark. You are blinded by an offer you feel you can’t refuse, but know isn’t doing you any good deep down. Ask, what is weighing me down? What isn’t as good as it appears?

You a wish to create something meaningful—we all do. But like a fire, your inspiration can either be all consuming or a short lived flash. You need to find a way to keep it cooking long enough to get the real work done.

    rmxpmmp3zsvb.jpeg
    The Emperor (reversed)
Keeping control is vital to success, but if you grip too firmly you’ll hurt both yourself and your charge. You need to let something go to truly benefit from it. Consider how loosing the ties that bind you might finally give you time to bring about a long awaiting project. Basically, take a break from being in charge, which might involve bringing someone else up to speed.

A really broad spread of concepts there, so I’d be surprised if that one was helpful…

And of course that's put me on to making a spreadsheet to try and codify the (subjective) similarities and differences and draw parallels between the major arcana via keywords like, "knowledge", "accountability", "liminality"...
:rotate: The latter was an attempt to compare/contrast the Fool with the Hanged One by literally situating them, as both are kinda in limbo as far as making decisions -> the contextless approach to choice is, respectively, (surrender -- dude is blithely stepping off a cliff, ain't much directed forethought there) and (reflection or surrender -- for the reasons I explained in the last post.) Magician is intention/willpower or action, High Priestess is reflection, Chariot is focused action, Devil is stagnation

liminality until I come up with a more apt term: The Fool, Chariot, and Wheel are all in movement, The High Priestess, Hanged One, Emperor and Empress are in place, and the Hermit is in retreat. That's all I've got so far.

It's all loosey goosey, we'll see how far I get before ADHD sidelines it until the next time.

    Tarot ontology wheeeee
somebody do a reading for me except all you use is the face cards from a deck of playing cards
I mean... that's a thing. Like, that's the court cards of the minor arcana -- they're typically used to represent people, generally as or in relation to the person being read for (the "querent") -- specific people, personality traits, era of life or approach.

So you're not gonna get much general advice or insight when limited to those cards; it might be useful in a specific layout to explore relationships (with oneself or others.) Now, if you use the whole deck and end up with all court cards, that's got legs -- making new connections (or highlighting being overly influenced by others), people who can offer or who can be helped, or a reminder that we only have a certain amount of influence, and the rest of life still happens.

You are in transition. What you were is not lost, but you’re outgrowing the past, and should choose only to bring along what still matters to you. Ask, what no longer matters? What do I need to matter, regardless of others views on my past self?

The wheel of fortune is turning. There are things at play beyond your control; seasons and cycles that continue without human intervention. Don’t fret the wins and losses that are heading your way, you can’t always take control of your fate—only how you choose to carry on.
