I finally got a new phone a bit ago after my carrier gave me a hard time limit on when my creaky old S6 would stop being able to make calls on their network.

I used to have quite a few games on it, but the limited and slowly shrinking available storage space, as well as the phone getting progressively slower and more weird meant that over time most all of them disappeared. But now I can do stuff again!
What's good these days?
I generally like puzzle games (played a bunch of 2048, Twenty, and you wouldn't believe how much mileage I got out of the various Candy Crush games. Solid puzzlers despite the aesthetic and the nagging to buy stuff)
I would generally prefer games without gacha mechanics or a bunch of energy gating.
I do like card roguelites in the vein of Slay the Spire, though most of the ones I'm aware of I've generally already played my fill on PC, so if there's any mobile only offerings that are good I'd be interested.
Ditto stuff like Stardew Valley. Love that game but not interested in playing it on my phone when I could play it on my desktop.

They're older but 10000000 and the follow-up You Must Build A Boat are both great puzzle games.

KRUMITS TALE is the only Android game that's stayed on my phone for any extended period of time. It is on STEAM but it is clearly designed for mobile.

. . .YMBAB is also good (though it can be spectacularly frustrating if I remember correctly and I was also surprised that it had an end to it).

I actually played through 10000000 on steam just a few weeks ago but I haven't tried YMBAB yet.
I'll definitely look into that and Krumit's Tale.

I usually end up coming back to something like Ticket to Ride or Carcassonne. A few ports like PUBG and XCOM stack up very well next to their big siblings on PC & console (see also KOTOR).

Oh and the Sorcery! series is a great choose your own adventure/RPG series that I can't recommend enough.

    Hoplite, Mini Metro, and Polytopia.

Hoplite is a kind of minimalist hex turn based roguelike and it rules.

Mini Metro is super chill and fun.

Polytopia is a 4x game that is simple enough to play and beat in like 30-45 minutes.

Mini Metro is the epitome of "just one more game" for me

If you like old style dungeon crawlers, the Gurk trilogy is really good.

They're 8-bit style RPGs (similar to very early Ultima games, but with turn based combat), the first one was originally written for JRE Nokia phones but later ported to Android/iOS, and the sequels were released for Android and iOS as well. The first game isn't on the Google Play store anymore (and may have issues running on newer hardware), so you'll have to find it from an apk site and sideload it, but the second and third games are both available and all three are free and do not have ads or microtransactions. It's kinda fun going through the trilogy and seeing how the presentation improved with each game over time.

    I had to uninstall it!

Oh, if you like Chose Your Own Adventure branching rpgs, and can deal with it being completely text based, check out the catalog Choice of Games as well as their more indie brand Hosted Games. Just be sure to check the reviews and review scores as writing quality will vary!

Some of my favorites (the first three are very early creations, but give a good sense of what is possible):
    Choice of the Dragon
    Choice of Romance
    Psy High

(The next group is pushing from good to great, very solid stories, themes, and/or game play)
    Mecha Ace
    Blood Money
Fox Spirit: A two tailed adventure
    Metahuman
    Runt of the Litter
    Heroes Rise: The Prodigy
    Heroes of Myth

(And finally the Just Goddamned Mind Blowing ones. Most of these I own on both Steam and my phone)
    Choice of Robots
    Choice of Magic
    Choice of Rebels: Uprising
    Fallen Hero: Rebirth

(Robots and Magic are the same author. Both Rebels and Fallen Hero have sequels in the works. I've played Fallen Hero more times than I can count, as well as playing the alpha version of the sequel available through the author's Patreon. Almost every one of these games is geared for multiple playthroughs, but Fallen Hero is just on another level)
