It was 40 years ago today, Sgt Pepper taught the band to play! 40 years since Sgt Pepper came out. It's often celebrated as one of the greatest albums of all-time! Whaddyathink?
face it, Within You Without You is a shitty song (aside from Revolution 9 their shittiest). Fixing a Hole and She's Leaving Home aren't that great at all imo. (Everyone seems to like Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds but I can't stand it) so for me almost 1/3 of the album gets skipped
I really prefer Abby Road (my favorite) The White Album or Please Please Me or Revolver or Rubber Soul and Magical Mystery Tour
don't get me wrong, I love Sgt. Pepper and the songs I like are incredible and I can easily see why it is hailed as one of the best albums of all time. It just doesn't do it for me as the best Beatles album
There's really no competition in my mind. Every song is perfect and they all fit together so perfectly. I've never listened to it and skipped songs. I always listen to the whole thing.
lots of good stuff in there, and one of the better albums ever, but a lot of their experimentation does't work at all. sgt. pepper's is so good because it's a brilliantly constructed album with a cohesive sound; whether or not you like the music itself, you've gotta admire how the album was made. same with pet sounds (which i actually think is the best).
i'm actually not a big fan of the beatles, but boy howdy could they put together an album.

I know it's not the 'greatest album ever' because of course, lol, it has to be the Beatles or some other high and mighty band that 'true music fans like'. But I like it and listen to it all the time.
You're just wrong. And that makes me sorry for you.
okay.
all i'm saying is that i've listened to sgt. pepper's, pet sounds, and london calling.
and in my opinion sgt. pepper's and pet sounds completely blows london calling out of the water in terms of cohesiveness. i mean, don't get me wrong, it's an AMAZING album. but "cadillac" right after "london calling"? come onnnnnn. and the motown-esque stuff is... not that great. it's just that there's probably two or three too many songs on the album. individually, 90% of the songs kick ass. as an album, it suffers a little bit.

Guys, guys. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is better then pretty much anything anyone here has suggested.
yeah, this shit is also amazing. i think critics kinda crap on it a little because it's a rock opera, which seems to piss some people off for some reason, but it's a great great album. too bad it was basically all downhill after that for bowie.
until muthafuckin LABYRINTH

Though I desperately disagree, I find your arguement coherent. I therefore allow you to have a different opinion than I. I happen to like the fact that it bops around generas, and "Lost in the Supermarket" nets it an automatic Top 5 from me. And "The Right Profile" is just weird.

Also, Exile on Mainstreet, guys.
hahahaha okay.
While I still think Clash is number one, it makes me sad no one has mentioned Zeppelin
i love love love led zep, and they're basically the inventors of hard rock, but i don't think they ever managed to make an album as coherent and finely crafted as pet sounds or sgt. pepper's.
IV is probably their best album, but it's not their most technically diverse or "interesting," i guess you could say (that probably belings to III, which is my favorite, or maybe Houses of the Holy). led zep can make a strong argument for being one of the best bands of all time, but probably not for having the best albums

Best Rock: Jimmy Hendrix - Are You Experienced
Best Country: Garth Brooks - In Pieces
Best Rap: Snoop - Doggy Style
Best Blues: BB King - Live in cook County Jail
Best Orchestral Soundtrack - Jaws
Of course, thats just my opinion, I could be wrong.
op ivy is an awesome awesome album. DK, I listened to a lot back in the day, and I can see why they're important from a punk/political perspective, but now I think they sound really bad and Jello has always been a pretty horrible vocalist...I'll always have a soft spot for the In God We Trust, Inc EP though...
Also, suggesting that Labyrinth was a career high point for Bowie is probably one of the dumber things I've ever heard. He had plenty of great albums after Ziggy Stardust.

i was joking, holy crap. and yes, some of bowie's stuff was fairly decent after ziggy, but none of 'em even got close to the bar it set. and his stuff after 1980 until recently was baaaaaaad

Definitely. Both Heathen and Reality were very good, his two newest. Says a lot when you can pump out good shit 30ish years later.

Oh come on, Let's Dance was pretty good, what with Stevie Ray Vaughan on guitar and all.

okay, i can't really argue against that, but honestly, that's about all the album is known for.
and tonight and (especially) never let me down, which is legendary in its badness, are both pretty terrible.

At any rate, trying to establish a best album is like trying to establish the best book ever written or the best video game ever developed. It's ridiculously arbitrary.
kiiiinnnddd of. there's a a pretty general consensus that pet sounds and sgt. pepper's are both in the top two or three for a good reason.
i think there's a certain amount of personal opinion that you can never get around, but i also think that you can objectively identify "great" albums, even if you aren't a huge fan of the music.

That's not even the best Nine Inch Nails album.
okay.

The most brutally beautiful album I've ever heard. And now I'm going to find it so I can listen to it again. It's been a while.
hahahaha okay.

or
D.B.S. If Life Were A Result We'd All Be Dead
I can listen to either from start to finish and it still gives me goosbumps and gets me moving after listening to them for years.
I can't stand the beatles or the clash, I'm not sorry.
I can see Pink Floyd or Dead Kennedys.
Definitely one of my favorite albums.
I was just about to say this. Hi5 :^:

Best Country: Garth Brooks - In Pieces
Best Rap: Snoop - Doggy Style
Best Blues: BB King - Live in cook County Jail
Best Orchestral Soundtrack - Jaws

It's what music was distributed in before people had bittorrent.
Though the new album is shaping up to overtake this from what I've heard.
That's an EP.

Abbey Road all the way. If it weren't for Octopus' Garden, that album would be flawless.
Garth Brooks- Double Live
(Don't know if this counts) Led Zeppelin- BBC Sessions
Also, on the note of Sergeant Pepper.... I love it but I'm not in love with it.....
