Sometime this weekend, I talked about the Final Fantasy games I've beaten.
This poll made me realize I had lied.
... I also beat Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest. In fact, it's the only FF game I've beaten multiple times. Because I rented it multiple times. Because I enjoyed it that much as a kid.

of those, 4 is my favorite because I found the core characters somewhat moving, as thinly sketched as they all were
FFTA2 was the most fun to play though. It was a time in my life where I had plenty of free time and I'd sit and listen to NPR on the radio and give every little combatant every skill possible by obsessively switching out all their weapons. Plus the pixel art was super cute. Unclear if I'd be willing to put the time in today. Not sure if I quite finished the game but I played many, many hours.
I was actually shocked to find that manual in my suitcase after my last move.
I've moved so many times! And it always ends with me desperately shoveling stuff straight into a dumpster, in order to finally be done with moving. So, almost nothing has stayed with me for more than a few years, let alone 12 of them. clearly Homeworld has a special place in my heart.

and it was really extremely striking, since all the other early FF stories are like, bla bla crystals bla the fate of the world who gives a shit, and they don't feel personal or real in any way (...I feel this way about FF7 as well, although sounds like the remake does better here)
