Maybe the real [Heroes of the Storm] were the friends we made along the way
solo q ana is pretty unfun but you at least win some 1v1s - I don't understand ppl that solo q medic and then get frustrated with whatever there team is doing; just completely at the mercy of whatever your teammates decide to do
What little I watched of dota man it was really boring. 50 minutes where 80% of it was just boring laning and jungling, item timings, and 20% fighting.
The fights seemed exciting and a bit complex but the rest of the game was dull.

Yeah the most unfortunate thing is that HotS is a more fun game
There are crazier combos/plays/wipes/carries that can happen with DotA, but yeah 80-90% of the game isn't that. It's chock full of so much complicated stuff you have to keep track of that doesn't make the game more fun (minion pulling, jungle stacking).
Most games last 40-60 minutes, yet are decided in the first 15-20 and the remainder is an unrecoverable death spiral.
Many heroes are only useful in the first half, and nearly useless after that.
Many heroes are completely useless until 40+ straight minutes of minion farming, at which point they can suddenly 1v5 the entire enemy team.
^ the above two gives you the constant feeling while playing that you're playing on a death timer where you either stop being useful or can't do anything useful
Items/gold/last hitting sucks. Should have been phased out of the genre 10 years ago.
Pro matches are watching the same comps over and over again (a blink dagger Tidehunter ult, you don't say!).
The graphics have always been awful, lacking the detailed animation that Heroes of Newerth had 12 years ago while also lacking the effective simplicity that early LoL had.
The cosmetics/boosts/storefront is such an overly complicated arcane mess that I have no idea how they make any money.
Arcane on Netflix is good while Dragon's Blood is a disjointed mess.
Despite all this, it is still better than the unplayable shambling mess that LoL has become.
For all its faults and mismanagements, HotS is the most fun MOBA out there. It's equal parts dumb and tragic that it fell off "because eSports" and audiences shying away because it's not hyper-carry based.
There's really no point in doing quests for gold anymore if you already have the heroes you want, right?
Like, best case scenario if MS ever revives the game they might give a bonus based on your gold as a reward for keeping the game 'alive' but that's both far-fetched and quite a while from now...

I haven't care about quests in years. I play enough draft mode that quests are auto completed. That said, I haven't cared about good in years either, I have way too much
I suppose that's a fair enough point I hadn't really considered yet: I own every hero and I've purchased every "gold sink" mount they've ever released. Gold is a literal dead currency now that we know there won't be any additional content.

You can purchase the mastery circle things

If there are still cosmetics you want, gold is still an avenue to get them.
I bought Tassadar airplane skin way back when that first came out.
Same, mecha-Tassadar was my one and only purchase

I may have bought gems once to get a skin I really wanted asap. Can't remember what it was offhand

Never bought gems. I did spend real money on multiple skins before they introduced loot boxes and gems though!

I wonder if it might be 2.0 that doomed the game. In that before there were folks chipping some $ in but it wasn't enough for the executives so they demanded a freemium model that depends on poor impulse control whales and then those whales just did not materialize.

That does feel like a very real possibility, although it's also possible that the pre-2.0 income was also insufficient for a full dev team as well. I wish we'd get a tell-all interview with an ex-HotS dev or manager that got into the gritty details we've only ever been able to speculate about.

I'm not gonna say that it was rolling in money, but I would be willing to bet cold hard cash that the push to 2.0 not only wasted resources in a boondoggle but also caused their existing revenue streams to dry up. It was a monumentally poor decision.

Which goes double for his talents. Seems you're forced between what's more fun and what contributes more value.
He's one of the only bruisers that keeps making me ask, "Why not just play a full tank? Or a full dps?"
I actually went Blue this game, in honor of Jungle Kharazim.

I've been meaning to watch the video where dendi coaches him, that sounds like a fun duo
edit: also yeah that viewer count is probably boosted by having known dota personalities on stream, lol

It's just frustrating. I'll die bitter and mad about HotS tbh lol
"r u noob or just braindamaged?"
Ignore him, keep rotating lanes for gems and xp, not dropping everything for pointless teamfights.
Eventually win. I end with triple the xp of 2nd place, 52% team's gems turned in.
The wife says we prob all will (those in this thread, that is)

Yes, let me pay the game so my enemies can find me easier on screen.
This was one of those design ideas where the ship had left the dock on blizz taking good care of the game.

I'll still do quests to scratch that itch.

I think I bought one or two heroes wayyyy back when they did weekly sales. Like, I got Tychus for $2 I think?
No gems though lol

Implementing a convoluted monetization system killed the game?
Frankly that's prob more accurate than not.
