Arr, Good Pirate Music?

A while ago someone posted a thread asking for suggestions of good spy music. This is similar except I would appreciate someone pointing me to pirate themed stuff. I already know about the Monkey Island games and the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtracks, and I assume the music from Tropico 2 would be good but I don't own the game and don't think the soundtrack is out.

So does anyone else have any good suggestions?

See if you can't find a soundtrack or recording of "The Pirate King". There are probably many versions out tho, and I cant really point you in the right direction. A professional company would be good, or there might be a soundtrack from the movie.

You all fail for not mentioning the Decemberists. So hard.

Specifically, The Mariner's Revenge Song. It's like an 8 minute story about pirates and revenge and giant whales set to a solid sea shanty. The entire album that one's from is good too, but nothing really touches that song. I think it's from Her Majesty, The Decemberists.

Bellowhead have done some pirate (ish) type music, they kind of specialise in remaking 19th century music and making it pure awesomeness.

I suppose the most sailory type music is probably Fire Marengo.

Jesus was a Pirate by The Wedgewoods.

and Queen Anne's Revenge by Flogging Molly (the Queen Anne's Revenge was the vessel of cpt. Blackbeard)

Dropkick Murphys has some yarrr-songs... Check Captain Kelly's Kitchen for example.

And there's also Great Big Sea.

This may seem like kind of an odd suggestion but you might try listening to Shanty Raid-io to get some ideas or to just enjoy the music. They don't always play pirate themed stuff. It depends on the DJ who is on at the time, but for the most part they play a lot of the songs mentioned above and more. The only thing is that you may have to put up with some odd commercials since the station is run by and for players of the MMO Puzzle Pirates. It's a cute lil station though and worth a listen if you like pirate-themed and folky music.

    Okay...that's enough. Link time. http://shantyraidio.com/main/

I second the Decemberists. Kind of in that vein, but not really, I suggest the Pogues. Not normally what you would consider pirate music, but if I was a pirate that's what I would put on. After all, they do have an album called "Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash".....

Also, I'm sure Nick Cave must have written a few songs that took place on a boat.

Best response. The Mariner's Revenge Song is actually from the album Picaresque, though.

They also have a piratey song on The Crane Wife called The Island, Come and See, The Landlord's Daughter, You'll Not Feel the Drowning. It's thirteen minutes long and ridiculously awesome. Colin Maloy can be a very creepy singer when he wants to.

Also, you're free to use the first song here if you like. Sorry about the MySpace, my hosting is all sorts of shitty right now.

    Wow.

I can't believe that no one in this thread has mentioned Rogue's Gallery, yet.

It is a double album of pirate music, produced by Johnny Depp and Gore Verbinski.

Some of it is really wonderful stuff.

Some of it is utter shit.

But I would recommend giving it a listen.
