Mention has also been made in the Hesher thread, in case it seems this is being ignored: https://forums.penny-arcade.com/discussion/comment/44387760/#Comment_44387760

    A sad loss indeed.

The man deserves his own thread imho.

The impact of his music is enormous, he had a great stage performance and was a convincing actor.

I love me some meat loaf... also the artist. Sad indeed when an icon for so many 'ostracon' or people who didn't fit the mold of normal or attractive has passed. He was an inspiration for many outsiders that they could be successful, loved, and had value.

One could say in many ways he was a boomer.. Not just by when he was born but also in his late life politics. But like all of us our lives and legacies are complicated... I will miss his presence, his energy and am glad his music will live on.

I didn't realize he was 74. I mean... of course he is, given that he was in his 20s/30s when RHPC came out. But.. that's the age my dad is!

Now I'm sad. The dude's music meant a lot to me.

He made it to 74 and died surrounded by his family. We should all be so lucky.

Yeah. Meat Loaf is some old stuff. I guess you could say that he made rock ballads.
Rocky Horror Picture Show was on the year I was born in 1975.
I did not discover that movie until I was in my 20s.

There are lots of weird 70s movies.

Really, I am surprised that that Brutal Legend game did not have some Meat Loaf in it.
At least I think it didn't.

We're the same age then. My stepdad took me and my friend to a midnight showing of RHPC when we were 16 or 17. Was possibly the weirdest experience of my life to that date.

Not to derail the thread, but the 70s did have some bizarre stuff. The films were edgier.

We probably need to have a 70s thread.

Meat Loaf died of COVID-19. He was an antivaxxer who complained about pandemic restrictions and wearing masks. There's nothing official stating he was unvaccinated, but he was probably unvaccinated.
"If I die, I die, but I’m not going to be controlled.”

    He died.

Man its weird only the unvaccinated die. I guess he'd do anything to live, but he won't vax.

I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

Nothing like sending out an apology for having your recipe of the week be Meatloaf the week Meatloaf dies.

I would say that is actually an honor.

I've been trying to get people to do a RHPS night forever but between covid, the theater that does the showing getting renovated, and dressing in underwear being a tid bit nippily in Wisconsin winters, haven't been able to get it together. Hopefully this summer or fall. The showing nearest Halloween is 200% more fun. Though I barely remember most the interactive bits.

I swore that I would love you to the end of time!

So now I'm praying for the end of time
    To hurry up and arrive
'Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you
I don't think that I can really survive
I'll never break my promise or forget my vow
But God only knows what I can do right now
I'm praying for the end of time
It's all that I can do
Praying for the end of time,
So I can end my time with you!

Is just one of my all time favorite lyrics. It's just such a funny/cynical twist at the end. Also an absurd song to ever get radio airplay(like most his stuff). 9 minute long rock opera about teenage fucking. The radio baseball play by play.

The man made some fun as fuck songs. Did we ever find out what he wouldn't do for love, or did he take it to his grave?

I think he'd have had a good laugh at that.

Not a really huge amount of records.

I have, uh, four of them it turns out (the first three and Bat... II). Midnight at the Lost and Found is famously not a great record, but I'm partial to the title track on occasion.
