First things first, if you want to talk about plot details of Campaign 1 of Critical Role,
PUT IT IN SPOILER TAGS AND MARK IT! The Legend of Vox Machina is an upcoming animated show on Amazon. It is the end result of a Kickstarter campaign launched by Critical Role and details one of the most popular arcs of Campaign 1. The main cast are:
Liam O’Brien as Vax’ildan, a half-elf rogue. Vax’ildan or Vax projects an air of seriousness but under that dark and brooding exterior is a person who wears his heart on his sleeve. Fiercely loyal to both his friends and his twin sister, he favors a good dagger in a fight.
Laura Bailey as Vex’ahila, a half-elf ranger. Vex’ahlia or Vex is the more pragmatic of the twins. As such, she projects a cool temperament. The confidant and charming exterior however hides many emotional scars. Vex favors the bow and her bear companion, Trinket.
Taliesin Jaffe as Percival Frederikstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III aka Percy aka No Mercy Percy, a human gunfighter. Percy is from a noble family but circumstances forced him to leave home. Normally quiet, he can be very articulate should the need arise. He further displays his intelligence when he fires his weapon of choice, a pepperbox firearm of his own design.
Marisha Ray as Keyleth, a half-elf druid. Keyleth is a brave, if somewhat socially inept woman, though what she lacks in social grace she makes up for in moral fortitude. Keyleth is on a spiritual journey as a right of passage amongst her people and while she seeks to grow and be a better person, her lack of worldly experience can lead to…questionable choices. Keyleth favors spells and turning into big f*ckoff animals in combat.
Ashley Johnson as Pike Trickfoot, a gnome cleric. Pike is very devoted to her god, her friends and her great great grandfather Wilhand. As such, she has the strongest moral compass of the group. Word to the wise though, do not hurt her friends or she will f*ck you up. She favors spells and her mace.
Sam Riegel as Scanlan Shorthalt, a gnome bard. Blessed (or cursed) with a silver tongue, Scanlan likes to think of himself as a gifted negotiator or something of a Casanova. But while he has had success, his charm can just as easily backfire and has landed him in trouble on more than one occasion. Scanlan favors spells and singing.
Travis Willingham as Grog Strongjaw, a goliath barbarian. Grog is a being of simple pleasures. Food, ale, violence and “attending the house of lady favors.” He would have more complex motives but Travis rolled a 6 for intelligence at character creation. Grog favors axes.
Matthew Mercer as Sylas Briarwood. Mercer is the DM of the game. He voices every ally, villain and random NPC but here in the show he mainly voices Sylas Briarwood. Not going to say anything else. That way lies spoilers

Same. I've watched a few episodes from Campaign One and have learned additional bits from clips on YouTube and the fan wiki, but it'll be nice to get a "director's cut" animated version of the original campaign.
Is it Friday yet?
If nothing else, just having Pike around all the time should be interesting.
What did they do to backers?

It's a matter of interpretation.
Basically, the campaign said they went to different studios who didn't get what they were trying to do, so they went to Kickstarter to fund a 40 min special episode. As the Kickstarter went bonkers, they said they were going to make an entire season and the campaign insinuated (This is the interpretation part) that backers would be able to download the show. That's my interpretation (In the section that says they're making 10 episodes, they say "Check back for the full download.") I dunno how long after the campaign, it was a few months, they announce Amazon ordered two seasons of the show. That was worrisome, but they said backers would get to watch the first season for free.
So now it's coming out and as a backer I have to subscribe to Amazon Prime to watch it, there is no other method being offered. I'm not going to, I object to Amazon, so I can only watch the first two episodes as part of their backer screening (Won't be able to watch it a second time, and only can watch it at the timeslot given to me). I suppose that was the original offer before stretch goals, 40 min, so technically I shouldn't have a problem, but I feel like they're breaking the spirit of their promise, if not the letter.

Some interesting stuff, such as how they apparently spent a lot of time considering how magic would be portrayed in the show and how close or not it would be to D&D's take. Matt also mentions one of his favorite things about the show is getting to add scenes with the villains and other characters that Vox Machina didn't witness first hand.
Fighty bits are animated really well. Some solid laughs. All the acting is great.

I'm glad they got to stay true to their creative vision, but I also can't help but wonder what a kid friendly or gritty political intrigue version of the Vox Machina campaign could have been like.
I'm seriously hoping for the former because if it's the latter I'm just going to not watch it until it's all out because otherwise I forget about it and apparently watching a few episodes and then not for months somehow looks worse number-wise than people only watching it after the whole thing is available.
week to week. Three episodes premiering each week.
Is it Friday yet?
Something like:
“I have discovered Joffrey’s true parentage! I must deal with Cersei with great care.”
Rolls a One.
EDIT: I just watched the trailer on Amazon and found this included under trivia:
It's Thursday!
I'm watching it now

Episode 1-3 Personal Highlights
- Everything about Gilmore's Glorious Goods.
- Travis delivering the most epic version of his character's catch phrase. I thought Grog was about to go Super Saiyan for a minute.
- Ball Tag.
- Vax using his magic snake belt, with absolutely no warning that was a thing he had or explanation for it.
- Percy intending to help Vox Machina mingle with high society but instead getting caught up staring at the Briarwoods with murderous intent.
- No Mercy Percy donning his mask and shooting a guy's fingers off as the rest of the crew watches in shock.
Although Episode 2 was good in the back half as well

Specifically:
- Matt with a lisp as the doorman collecting weapons from the party at Feast.
- Matt as the guy Scanlan wizzes on while checking the mercenaries wanted notice on the billboard.

Vague Percy spoilers
Seems like a huge missed opportunity to make the source material more relatable. Or are they doing this on purpose because they're creating a new magic system? There were a few spells that seemed out of place for the game, but probably in line with conventional fantasy magic.
But once I got adjusted to that bit of weirdness I had a lot of fun with it. Though I'd agree that Grog's catchphrase doesn't make a lot of sense in-universe but it was still a cool moment.
I suspect it might be an attempt to avoid copyright infringement. The cartoon isn't a Wizards of the Coast product, and I don't think they have permission to utilize official elements of the IP. It's probably the same reason they changed Bigby's Hand to Scanlan's Hand in the cartoon, and why they refer to the goddess Sarenrae as the Everlight instead.
I think critical role media group is trying to be their own thing for greater creative control, but will do the occasional crossover with wotc
there's probably more of a headache of introducing content with a partnership which might explain why the taldorei guide is still their own thing
