So I was switching out the heatsink on my main computer todat (something I do fairly often, so i didn't do anything absurdly stupid that would have killed it) but after putting everything back together when I powered on the computer I had no video, no post no error beeps etc. Fans/hdd's/optical drives all had power. After taking everything off and on numerous times I'd come to the conclusion that the mobo was fried due to the lack of beeps. then i tried booting it up without the HSF on to see if that gave any beeps/to see if the hsf was shorting anything, this gave me a long string of beeps(which according to my manual indicate a power failure...which it obviously isnt since it only happens when i try to boot without an hsf) and then a restart (i'm assuming due to the CPU hitting its thermal limit and triggering a shutdown) So given the above facts is it more likely that the mobo or cpu is fried? or am i overlooking something else that could be causing this? Unfortunately I don't have any other machines of a similar socket (775) that i can easily swap out parts and check with.
