[chat]worms for children (not intestinal)

shrykeshryke Member of the BeastRegistered User regular
Earworms are like parasitic worms, but for your ears. And also they are music. And probably won't help you lose weight.

And then, when you are a parent, you start to get worms from your children and the stuff they do.

These are the most recent ones my children have been afflicting me with:

At least it's not the same Backstreet Boys song 6 times in a row.

My kids bangers right now are Cocomelon's Wheels on the Bus, the songs from Moana, and Wintergatan's Marble Machine song.

and I wonder about my neighbors even though I don't have them
but they're listening to every word I say

This house has no alcohol. All they drink is water.

My in-laws are like, pure, viceless folk whose only indulgence is dessert with every meal, which they promptly calorically erase by walking a mile and then framing a building. It's honestly really admirable. I am an indolent mass of flesh by comparison.

I've had one glass of wine in five days here because the cool wine mom (brother's MIL) was here with a bottle

Shoulda bought that Blanton's Gold i saw at the airport

On that note I miss when movies had an end credits song written specifically for the purpose and often included lyrics referencing stuff in the movie.

I just played the Marble Machine song to my 3 month old and he spent the whole time being entranced by it.

My daughter just turned 2 and its " 'gain! mar-bal!" over and over. I try to keep any single song repeat to 2x. Otherwise they will make you go crazy.

    So in Kei truck chat.

    These cuties.

    ez1nkpj3ti63.jpg

My wife gave me the complete ok to find and buy one. So much cheaper and better and neater than a UTV. Gators are boring as shit.

She said $6000 is my limit, it can't be rusty, and I need to be able to plate it (25 year rule means a 97 or older model year). To buy by July.

I am so entirely happy about all of this.

This song is kind of an ear-worm in spots, since it's about another song that is definitely an ear-worm

Glad someone asked because I was hoping for it.

The NTSB doesnt let you drive vehicles on US roads that havent been crash and emission tested and meet US regulations. You cant just bring a car from Japan or Europe in if the headlights or bumpers or brake lights are wrong and dont meet US standards. If you try to cheat and get caught the car goes to the crusher and you are just out whatever you paid.

You can't even pretend in most cases they are ATVs / low speed vehicles (golf carts) / motorcycles / tractors. At best it is private property only.

However there is something called the 25 year rule which basically let's you bring anything in that was manufactured elsewhere 25 years ago. You can title, register, and plate it and drive it as a vehicle.

So a 97 model whatever is free game and ticks up every year for cool Japanese or European cars.

If I get a 97 or older i can put a license plate on it and putter to the dump or hardware store if i want.

I was looking at importing a motorcycle from Ontario since a guy had a cherry '18 XSR700 in a garage full of snowmobiles that he just didn't ride, but I talked to my brother who is a sales manager for a Dodge dealer and it was just a *shakes head* kind of thing. Import was a huge PITA, he was going to have me talk to his importer to do it but that kind of made it not worth.

It's not like a FN MAG weighs all that much and it's not a .50 but I still would very much not like to be on the other end of a .30.

Even a M2 and the tripod is only like 130ish pounds? Go for it.

It can do 900lbs on the bed, so a few sandbags and a M2 is doable in a pinch.

Watching Barry on HBO Max. I really love that they have Allison Jones playing herself on this show. She's the legendary casting director responsible for a huge amount of hit shows, like the US version of The Office, Brooklyn 99, and The Good Place.

Also when it comes to imported stuff, the truck (Discovery Sport) was originally Canadian. We bought it with like 1100 miles, not sure the story but we think it was a VIP / fleet purchase that never got actually used but wasnt new either.

The speedo is analog though and is in kilometers not mph. Everything else is digital but that's the one clear place it was originally Canadian.

Either way the dealer handled all the import stuff and we got a new truck that was already depreciated off the lot and it's been fun. I'm super pumped about the Defender though. July 22nd is the projected date to get it.

This nightmare of a project has a light at the end of the tunnel after all.

The absolute fucking worst part of this whole ordeal is over, and I will be delivering a plugin tomorrow, finally. We found one late "whoopsie" bug that was fixed in an hour by the devs and they'll merge tomorrow morning. The last bit is essentially copypaste code from another bit we've already certified.

There's nothing worse than a company that wants to toss around they're "agile" when it takes their system 2 hours to process a file manifest and they want full regression testing done 4 times over the course of development.

Just had a kind of unpleasant interaction with a younger tech I've dealt with here for years.

He wanted to make a change to my treatment (against charted orders no less) so I told him to take it up with the nurse.

She then listened to his concerns and reasoning and calmly, carefully explained that:
    1. The patient (me) doesn't want to do that
    2. The orders say [x] and we're not gonna go against the orders

And I like the kid ok but he kind of has a habit of overstepping on things like this when it's not his place to make the decision. Suggesting things that are 100% the purview of the nurses or doctor to suggest.

Anyway I made a couple of unfortunate comments

"I told you to ask the nurse because I knew she'd back me up"

"I said I didn't want to make that change as nicely as I could"

And man I was shocked at how PISSED he turned out to be "You've never been nice to me!" Which is a flat out lie even though he annoys the hell out of me.

The nurse has to document it but I told her I didn't want to escalate beyond that so we'll see if a private conversation or two can help things.
