I just snagged Shredder's Revenge and I am happy to report that it is exactly as advertised: it looks, plays and feels basically like lost levels from the TMNT arcade game and Turtles in Time. Also, I am delighted to learn that it has five-person co-op. Finally, a game my friends and I might all be able to play on a Friday night.

As with a lot of retro pixely things, I think it's a bit too jagged since it doesn't have that CRT analog antialiasing that made the arcade look almost like a smooth cartoon, and the colors and UI are weirdly undersaturated, but these are incredibly minor quibbles when the character/stage designs, music, voices, etc are so spot-on and the fighting controls are tight and intuitive.

I think it's 6 person coop! Either way, super excited to give it a shot this evening.

I didn’t expect the next part of 7R so close to 16 honestly. I’m sure it’ll take a delay but still that’s pretty cool if they can do it.

they have different internal studios working on them, I think. SE can run 2 or 3 big budget projects at a time.

Oh of course, more that that’s a LOT of final fantasy in a short window.

I forgot that I needed to avoid the randomly generated dungeons at almost all costs

Creating a custom version of the Recall spell is pretty much a requirement. You can fudge them to require only 1mp to cast.

Dragon's Dogma is also in Humble's Capcom Bundle (available 6 more days), which is also just an overall great bundle.

    Wow.

The second game must cover a HUGE swath of locations because uh, the third game seems like it would be all the endgame shit (which is a LOT), or at least everything post Reunion.

Hm. Do they end during Reunion or at the scene.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Got the new TMNT game. Great so far, except one thing.
The final boss kind of sucks to fight. A whole lot of just dodging until you can attack him for a few seconds.

Other than that, I'm really enjoying it. Though now I want the damn frogs as playable.

There's a lotta shit in the back half of ff7 that you could cut or streamline

You do not particularly need the stuff about going to space or the ocean for instance

I believe Xenogears and Xenosaga are related, with Xenogears being the last or penultimate game in the saga, but more sure about Xenoblade.

So, they aren't, but the reason you think this is VERY funny

Xenogears was conceived of as part of a 6 episode series, specifically episode five of that series. The other episodes weren't made, because that's insane.

Then, Xenosaga was conceived of as an entirely different 6 episode series because they didn't properly understand the reasons that was incredibly stupid the last time

Oh huh. Here I always thought it said episode 5 because you were playing the 5th
generation of Fei. Ship kid, Abel, Kim, and Lacan are generations 1-4.

I used to use Touch Arcade for ages until they murder their own website and made it impossible to search for anything other than the most current popular games, which is really sad cause they had a top 100 list that was helpful but now it's uh, just the current top 100 games of the month, rather than like, all time.

    Sniper Elite 5 update:

I had to go back to a previous mission because I missed a workbench that unlocks weapon parts. You don’t need to complete the mission, just use the bench, then you can exit out. Since I didn’t care about the mission I took all the suppressors off my guns, and went in guns blazing. It was different and fun.

You can die very quickly in the game but just letting rip with a Thompson and a 100 round magazine was fun.

I dunno they didn’t really cut anything from part 1, I’m ok with them changing or adding stuff, like making content work better or more meaningful, but I’d be pretty bummed if they just straight up cut locations or distinct sequences. I’d rather they make the space or ocean sequences just more meaningful or have some new aspect that makes them work. It’s possible given that they already have the engine and everything up and working that Part 2 and 3 will be bigger games than part 1, so I don’t think they have to necessarily cut stuff

A lot of FF7 remake part 1s time in development was false starts or getting things to work. They’ve said they’re already working on part 3 alongside part 2, so it’s possible with a more streamlined development time these games will be much longer than 1 while taking less time to develop

The early parts of FF7 are more important though, the point is that there's a shitload of padding in the late game that you could lose

  • ProhassProhass Registered User regular
    edited June 2022
Yeah I get that just personally I’d rather see them take that padding and turn it into meaningful content, new dialogue, different tone, pacing, etc, with the same setting or backdrop, rather than just cut it

For example they could’ve easily cut the Honeybee but instead they turned it into something better than the original
