The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
The story is a slow burn. It is a mystery. https://youtu.be/bXrH4Uw2hgo
It sounds like it is a nice little action rpg with fun gameplay. Maybe needs more enemy variety. $60 might be asking for too much.
Get the PS4 version and upgrade to the PS5 version. You get two versions for the price of one.
did they even try anything beyond a gacha game for the shining series
The Shining series never really went away in Japan until recently. The games just stopped getting localized, especially in the PSP era. There's like four or five in a row across half a decade that never made it out of Japan.
I will have to try Silmeria too and contrast and compare.
I am kind of getting interested in the games again. I liked the collecting souls aspect.
Valkyrie Profile is going for $1,300 on eBay.
That must have been an unopened copy.
I looked again and it goes for around $500.
Might need to put my copy in a special place.
I'm kind of curious how the VP port might sell now, if it ends up doing better than this game. I was actually looking forward to that and was bummed they delayed it. I've tried 50 times to get through that game on hard. Looking forward to attempt 51.

If they hadn't further deviated the gameplay from the first game (as they did with the second), instead of just improving on it with a modern spin, I would be more interested in this game. As is, the mediocre reviews, lack of PC release and my general meh response to the demo has me waiting for a PC sale - if ever
Honestly I'm not sure what's going on at SE. They have been putting out some really questionable stuff: Strangers, which had, from what I played, excellent gameplay but just terrible everything else including narrative and performance, FF16 preview with everything going on with it, DIOFIELD which had decent enough gameplay but a bad story, silly pricing and zero marketing, and now this. Genuinely feels like this is a company - more than most others - that typifies the soulless squandering of IPs by single and short minded executives.

SE is a terrible company held together by a handful of actual good departments while the rest of the company tries very hard to throw every bit of goodwill and profit those competent Devs make straight into a black hole of sheer idiocy.
SE produces more misses than hits for me, but that's just normal. And at least they're trying stuff and taking a few risks, not only making the same couple of successful games over and over again. Now if only SE didn't price all their releases so high, I might take chances on more of the weird lower budget ones...

And they still won't port Silmeria to fucking anything at all.
Notice I did not put the PSP version of the first game in the original post. I like the original game more.

Here is a highly critical review. Prepare for the colonoscopy.

Square Enix letting you know some effort was put into making this game.

They can't revive a niche IP with a low to mid tier game. The same thing happened over at Sega with the Shining series.

I have heard a lot of bad things about this game.

Jolly good.

Last june there was, might be another soon.

Old fans of VP who don't want the same gameplay or characters, but a generic mediocre action game with the skeleton of VP's plot stretched over it?
