Honestly this sounds awesome, if it works, and you live in France

It sounds like they want to turn the French high speed train system into the German high speed train system.

And I don't know how both systems would run together in the same rail system.

Sounds like they're gonna try and squeeze some extra trains into gaps on the timetables, I guess you can juggle it as long as your coordination is impeccable and nothing goes wrong.
    ... I'm fairly skeptical tbh.

Yeah, the no reservations part and having to stay out of the way of the long distance high speed TGVs seems complicated

I have an update to my trains are great thesis which is that I just spent four days scooting all around Sydney on the train and I forgot how good a functional public transit system is. The longest wait we ever had at a station was 7 minutes (on a Sunday), and they've put in paywave on all the trains AND buses so you don't have to fuck around with tickets or loading funds onto cards, just wave your credit card vaguely at the tag spot.

Now I'm back in the us and boy do I have some ideas

For the train experts, what would something like MARTA in Atlanta be classified as?

As I've lamented on the Northern Ireland (and Ireland too tee bee hitch) railway system has pretty badly atrophied, but the Belfast-Derry mainline is still in operation, and I think is really pretty if you want to take a train just for scenery, especially the Coleraine-Derry part.

For the train experts, what would something like MARTA in Atlanta be classified as?

    Light Rail?

Edit: shit, English has way more sub definitions than German it looks like?

Might be a premetro? Or does it have exclusive right of way? Then it might be a real metro.

    Thanks!

Gareth needs someone to do a bit of a design overhaul on that though.
