Anyone know of a decent PoGo Friend finder system? There's four Vivillon regions I don't have yet, and all the people on Leek Duck's system either have too many friend requests or accept me and then never, ever send gifts.

Well dang. I was excited for spotlight hour because I've wanted a shiny Slurpuff for awhile now and never had any luck (even during GoFest boosted rate). Of course, it's full rate so I wasn't expecting anything, but hey, worth a shot and it's double dust anyways.
I got three shiny Swirlixes.... Literally how? One was even 3*. Also while I was out there I got a random Zekrom invite and it ended up being a 98% (15/14/15). And I got a second 98% Salamence as well... (I've had one since the original community day I think but hey, more the merrier). So yeah, tonight was kinda awesome.
What a really odd choice. They JUST released this shiny a few months ago. Now granted, it's a freaking awesome shiny (one of the absolute best shinies IMO), but yeah, really odd pick. I guess I'm ok with this if only cuz the shiny is amazing (and being realistic, even with this event Noibat candy has been a bitch to get... not everyone could farm a bazillion 7k eggs in October like I did So like, I'm ok with this from the "it will be good for a lot of people" stance) Still, surprised this wasn't saved for like, next October or something, especially with Noibat being part of the wild spawns this month. *shrug*
Also further justifying that I should not bother with these constant Noivern outbreaks in Violet :P (I did get one Noibat shiny in that game awhile ago)
I guess this is what that whatever new datamined sound move (edit: it was Boomburst) was for, instead of Whismur? Also side note, while we're doing community days of annoying 10k mons, how bout Goomy day? Or the long overdue Riolu day? (still have never gotten a Lucario shiny, even in the mainline games... the yellow dog eludes me constantly)
Also wonder if this move makes Noivern any good. I'm guessing it's still trash. Would love to have an excuse to use one tho (that said, I don't wanna waste my elite TMs on my already existing 100% Noivern so maybe that's fine :P Still think normal TMs should grant you the community day move if used during community day... don't know why that was never a thing).
I mean, it's better than Dunsparce community day or something.
Real talk: I would LOVE Dunsparce community day, as I've grinded the "make five nice throws" research that grants it for like two years now and I STILL haven't gotten the shiny version.
Goomy was released less than a year ago, so it's probably way too soon for a CD on that one. But yeah, I'm also a little surprised we haven't gotten a Riolu CD.

I don't have a shiny Dunsparce either. Maybe they'll do a community day once Dudunsparce is in the game. :P (speaking of which, man I feel we're due for some gen 9 mons soon like they did with gen 8 and releasing a couple of the early route mons)
When was Noibat released? Both it and Goomy are from gen 6 so I thought they would have been released around a similar timeframe. But maybe not.
Lunar New Year will be interesting. I guess they've got Mega Lopunny to go with that and I assume they'll be releasing a bunch of rabbit pokemon in the wild (year of the rabbit and all that) but wonder what else. Also curious what Crackling Voltage event is... I see they've lined Tapu Koko up with it, which makes sense. Could they be releasing Zeraora? Probably wishful thinking, but trying to figure out what "special" they could do with that event - they usually like to release something new like a shiny or mega or new mon (Shiny Helioptile? Shiny Emolga? Shiny Joltik? Shiny Tynamo? Also wow gen 6 has like NO electric types wtf). edit: Or maybe it's just for friggin already confirmed new shiny Tapu-Koko.. I'm a dumb, I bet that's it... Though he comes out a few days before so I'm not sure if that counts (like, this current event is kinda to promote Mega Salamence but he only debuted two days into it, so we also got shiny Dedenne as de-facto tied to the event itself). Maybe we'll get a surprise appearance of region-exclusive Pachirisu :P Edit 2: In hindsight it's weird that Shiny Dedenne was released for the fairy/dragon event and not this one. But then it's weird that the event is fairy at all so *shrug* (I guess they didn't wanna do all dargons)
Oh, and Chespin CD totally hinted at Minior coming really damn soon so I'm wondering when we'll see that.

December 2020. I had that bastard as my buddy for nearly a year grinding the candy to evolve it.
The releases started hopping across gens hardcore around 2020 or so, so trying to predict when we're due Pokemon is an exercise in madness. I mean, we JUST got Keckleon. I'm surprised we haven't gotten any Scarlet/Violet regionals yet besides that one weird coin event.

Ah ok. And yeah, but it's fun I feel like I have a good vibe for how they're planning these events at this point so it's fun to try some educated guesses Plus Kecleon is a weird special case of for some reason Niantic not bothering to do any of the pokemon that were "hard" until this year (I'm not gonna lie, I do feel like MNC Dover's wife/her department has something to do with it - 2022 has been nuts for QoL changes and good stuff like that), plus the endless amount of complaints they'd get if they released Hoenn Tour without Kecleon :P
Honestly, thinking on the Crackling Voltage event some more, I do wonder if it's Pachirisu. Looking at Serebii it hasn't been released outside its region except ONCE during Go Fest 2019 in Chicago (back before the global ones). It's so due for a global release event. I think I'm putting my pin on that as my prediction :P (plus shiny Tapu-Koko, but like I said, he releases two days before the event so he's not *exactly* tied to it). Otherwise it's probably an electric shiny (for whatever reason Tynamo does make a lot of sense to me, but it would be pretty ass of them to do the spotlight hour and THEN release the shiny :P Especially when they could easily swap it around with Blitzle)
Though I'm not entirely sure how accurate that chart is? Lugia's well known as a shitty choice for raiding due to low DPS - and that's using it for psychic. Putting it in the top flying slot? With a psychic fast move? Yeesh. I tend to use GoHub's lists of best by type (even though they're clogged with megas and shadows):

Yeah, I know they've got Mewtwo's fast move wrong too. But I figure as a general guide it's still helpful. The mega/shadow thing is what usually annoys me about other guides. Like, I don't have a bunch of shadow options (a lot of them flat out aren't available anymore, especially the legendaries... even the ones that are still obtainable tend to be super rare if they're good shadows, like dratini, swinub, larvitar, etc) and megas are a hassle (would rather the extra candy for type matching). So I'd rather just know what normal attackers to focus on. (though speaking of which, I have no clue why they bothered with a list of Normal types... why you'd ever want to use that is beyond me :P They don't even get ghost immunity in this game)
Definitely digging the choose your own adventure timed research we've been getting lately.
Yes, especially as long as they all include bonus stardust cuz dang I need that so much
I do wonder if Galarian Darumaka has a boosted shiny rate too. I'm not sure if the research task rate/eggs are boosted or only wild spawns though (if it's all of them I assume yes?). Either way, it's probably worth farming 7k eggs again. Those are some decent hatches (and frankly I need Lucario candy.. and like, a shiny Lucario...). (also does Chingling really not give bonus stardust? I was totally under the impression it did since Chimecho does... lame)
I'm gonna have to make sure I spam XP gains soon. I *think* next level is the one that requires all the stupid lucky trades so it'd be nice to hit that before this event. (edit: nope, it's 49, not 48 T_T)
Trainers, we will be correcting the Mega Energy needed to Mega Evolve Salamence from 200 to 300 after the Twinkling Fantasy event. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Like literally why?
The only thing I can come up with is that Salamence is pseudo-Legendary, and the two Mega Legendaries we do have (the Lati_s') are 300 Mega Energy to mega evolve.
Only got 150 the first time, but wife needed a better Salamence anyway so we did a second. And I hosted a raid on Pokegenie so we got Zekrom as well (but only got a 2-star)
Have you checked out the map they quietly rolled out? Gray square, upper right. Pulls up a map of all Pokestops, gyms, and current/upcoming raids across the world. Seriously. I just surfed around for raids in South Korea. Very cool.

No idea which app you're talking about but I have no gray box in the upper right of either app. Also I'm not paying full price for remote raid passes so it doesn't matter.

I think they mean campfire. That might still be invite only, so not everyone has it.
Campfire is a separate app that I guess is supposed to be a sort of community tool? You can make local groups and chat. You can also light beacons that alert other people that you're doing a raid.
As of just a few minutes ago it's still 200 cost to mega evolve Salamence, which is good because I was waiting until the very end of the event to do my evolves as I was hunting for a high stat one but forgot to do the mega evolve yesterday.

Mega Salamence can be beaten by two trainers, in case anyone was wondering.
How much energy where you able to get off one battle? Trying to decide how many we'll need to do tomorrow
200 when it was just the two of us. I think 300 or 400 when we took it with a group of five.
Nah, you might be able to get 250 if you kill him insanely fast (like, 20 people?) but otherwise you're likely only getting 225 or 200. ~150 if you are slow to kill him (like < 100 seconds left). I don't think it ever goes above 250.
I know it was a piddly amount when it was just the two of us, and a lot more when it was five. I know the five of us took it out quickly, benefit of having a lvl 48 and 49 in the raid. Or I should say a team of trainers who know which mon to power up and how to maximize them.
I remember originally much bitching that these seemed to be separate pokemon ("Our old Kyogres and Groudons can't primal?!?!") but this seems to not be the case if I'm understanding right? Looks like it basically works like fancy mega energy which is kinda what I expected and IMO the proper way to implement this. (the boosting three types is pretty neat)
Wonder how good the signature moves are, if they are a big improvement to those two. I could really use better versions of both (I never got good IVs back when they originally came out) so I'll probably farm hard for some good ones
Now if only we could get confirmation that the non-Vegas Hoenn event will have boosted shiny chances. I think we knew about the boosted shinies for the other two region events long before now.
Ah, I like the big obvious animations for tiny/huge Pokemon.
It's a bit jarring, but like, in a good way. Just caught a Spearow that's under 6inches tall! Just the smallest birb.
Playing it on my breaks it seems tiny/huge mon are roughly as common (half as common?) as shinies on a community day, so yeah, the animation's a good thing. The extremes are somewhat hard to spot by size alone if you're not paying close attention, since you're catching all kinds of species.
Ah they went the shiny Helioptile route :P (I thought I was onto somethin with Pachirisu :P Oh well Helioptile is kinda the first one that came to mind initially when I thought of missing electric shinies). Interesting, increased shiny rate in raids - no egg spamming this time? Nothing jumping out to me as super hype here but new shinies (and a chance to rectify not getting Tapu Koko) are nice. Maybe some more chances for shiny Dedenne *shrug*
Also meh, not quite sure I care about Shadow Registeel.... I wonder if I should bank this one (though I imagine next up is like Shadow Regirock and Regice so how useful is that even? ) More TM'ing Frustration off is always nice though (although it feels like we JUST had a Rocket Takeover so I don't really have that much to TM). Also god dammit I need to get Shadow Mewtwo on my alt asapz... (though my alt doesn't have a rocket quest so I'm guessing one of the weirdo ones is really a rocket quest, like the Jessie and James one? Or they're just screwed, entirely possible...)
(edit: Also two more megas for me to skip, though I might do a couple Aerodactyls for XL candy/extra energy.. Gengar's kinda getting spammed a lot :P Am surprised they didn't do Ampheros or Manectric or something to tie with the event, not that I need those either :P Please Feb wtb good Power Up 10 for mega energy option! Would love to finally get Kangaskhan, or like, more than one of some of these like Altaria, the only fairy type ATM )

Community Day went pretty good. Managed to get 19 shiny larvitars and that's with honestly barely trying (I was more concerned with getting good IV ones so I didn't focus nearly as much on checking spawns as I did grabbing quests. I also quit an hour early :P). Also got a perfect, so woooo!
Wish I had more desire to go out and catch stuff tho. Feel like I've barely used my 2x stardust (tho I got a bunch from community day so that's nice). It's just so bleh to play during winter tho. Once it warms up things will be better.
I ended up with no shinies. Thankfully Tyranitar's shiny isn't very impressive. My shiny luck on GO left me (although my shiny luck in Scarlet is BONKERS, so it makes up for it).

So unless you specifically want a Shadow Registeel, I'd consider not completing that event and keeping the Super Rocket Radar.
That way, when the next Rocket event after that comes along, you'll be able to get two shots at it.
