Backing Up Text Messages - Android to PC

AbsoluteZeroAbsoluteZero The new film by Quentin KoopantinoRegistered User regular
A loved one passed away recently and I'm looking for a way to back up a couple years worth of our text messages to my PC. Running a Samsung Galaxy S20. The phone itself doesn't seem to have any built in way to accomplish this. Googling for a solution leads to a bunch of sites wanting you to download sketchy looking software.

There must be some way to do this?

You can use the messenger app via the website.

    messages.google.com

scroll down to "also available on your computer" and log in using the QR code.

I honestly don't recall whether it has the full message history and archive options but I think it might. I haven't used it in a while.

I use SMS Backup and Restore. You can set it up to backup to a Google Drive or other account.

You'd have to restore the messages to a phone, and it's not super granular, but it'll preserve the messages.

This looks like it is just the ticket. With some futzing around looks like I can use this app to convert to PDF even. Thank you!
