PennLive: Mastriano falsely says Philly hospital is ‘grabbing homeless kids’ and experimenting on them.
    https://www.pennlive.com/news/2022/10/mastriano-falsely-says-philly-hospital-is-grabbing-homeless-kids-and-experimenting-on-them.html

Mastriano is a QAnon extremist asshole, who's accused children's hospitals of kidnapping homeless children and surgically changing their gender, without their consent.

I'm sorry if my language is poor, I'm not as educated about these issues as I should be, and I am working on improving myself

Really, really want to get Todd Young out of the Senate seat here in Indiana, but fucking he has like a 97% to beat McDermott. I am sad.

My state’s awful governor who resigned a few years ago in the wake of a scandal where he said some appalling racist things that were even more appallingly racist than the other appalling racist things he’d said in the past, and who kept cutting Medicaid funding and restricting it as much as possible, and who straight up refused to legalize marijuana despite at least two referendums succeeding at the voting booth, is literally running for governor again

Not gonna say I’m confident he won’t win either, but hey, at least he’s not a shoe-in. And we have rank choice voting! I can’t imagine that motherfucker is anyone’s first choice

Doing more phone-banking tonight and generally going well! Though every time I do this I get at least one person who's like "[Name]? You're looking for [name]? That's who you're looking for? You... whaaaat? You want to speak to [name]? Why do you want to speak to [name]? I don't understand how you could possibl-" and I have to cut them off and be like oh is this a wrong number and they're like oh yeah no I have no idea who [name] is.

Every night I introduce at least one person to the very concept of a person calling an incorrect phone number.

Edit: Also if you're just sitting there in your anxiety I highly recommend doing some phone-banks. At a minimum it's just a kind of boring game where you click the right buttons every minute or so and keep saying "Hi I'm a Democratic volunteer -" before a hang-up and at best it's someone saying they really appreciate you calling and you're the whole reason they're voting and they're so proud of you.

Two democracies, please. Me and my husband have our ballots filled out and awaiting our mail carrier, and are voting pretty much a straight Democratic ticket here in Spokane, minus one independent cuz she seems really cool and reasonable and supports ranked choice voting.

  • Crippl3Crippl3 oh noRegistered User regular
The only independent we had on our ballot was a LaRouchite candidate for governor, and after looking it up for a minute I didn't really understand what it is so I didn't vote for them

My election was pretty ho hum because my county is hella blue and I think Wes Moore's probably going to win the governor's race and he seems fine I guess and the senators and rep I vote for are pretty much a lock and duh of course we want weed to be legal so that ballot question wasn't any big deal, but

we live close enough to DC and VA that on broadcast TV we get absolutely non-stop ads from Virginia and oh my stars and days could you guys please get your shit together because if I never hear about Hung Cao or Yesli Vega or Abigail Spanberger again in the entirety of my life and beyond I will still have heard too much.

The guy running against JB Pritzker for governor in Illinois is an absolute fuckbag and I hope he loses horribly.

My fiancee and I have mailed in our ballots. Our state deciding to go entirely vote-by-mail many years ago has been incredibly awesome for otherwise busy folks like me. I'm never leaving this blessed sanctuary of voter enfranchisement.

Now if we could just swap out our sales tax for an income tax...

Pritzker spent thirty million dollars getting that fuckbag onto the ballot.

Pritzker and the Democratic Governors Association (DGA) have spent $30 million in ads attacking a moderate Republican mayor from the Chicago suburbs. Critics accuse the governor, who is running for reelection this year, of trying to ensure his general election opponent will be a rural state lawmaker who has called for kicking the city of Chicago out of the state of Illinois.

The gambit might work. Polls show state Sen. Darren Bailey’s candidacy surging, and last weekend, he picked up an endorsement from former president Donald Trump.

Irvin and Bailey was one of several cases this year of Dems boosting the more radical/Maga candidate in races with the belief that while they might be bug eyed fucking crazy but that makes it easier to win against them after the primaries where a Republican moderate closer to Dem positions can pose more of a challenge.

Historically Warren did it once in a re-election campaign and won, other the other hand you have 2016 to point to of what happens when you get over confident and have to live with the results of the bug fuck crazy person winning.

In Pritzger’s case last I saw he was leading by 13%, but I think there has been more money spent in that race than any other?

In all of the stories about how a Democratic candidate boosted the shittier candidate said candidate tends to have won the primary by like 40%+.

Like in the Republican primary in Illinois Darren Bailey got 57.2% of the primary votes. The next highest candidate was 15.2%. The mayor mentioned in that article came in third at 15%.

Republicans really like the shittiest candidates. They don't need to be swayed by Democratic advertisements. It's just a more interesting story to ruminate about how this or that electoral tactic may or may not be a dangerous mistake than it is to put in bold letters "Republicans are horrible" every day.

There has not been a midterm election where the incumbent party held onto both houses of Congress in 20 years, and that was due to the country being in the throes of jingoism about a year after 9/11. And it’s only happened three times this century.

I’m not saying to despair, but don’t let this impact your mental health.

There was a pretty neat couple of days last month when it seemed like the moderate Republican who cynically changed their party to Democrat just to run for governor might have had a chance of beating the truly awful void in a suit that is Kevin Stitt, the man so evil he decided to pillage a state for personal gain and so dumb that he chose a broke-ass state like Oklahoma to pillage.

Anyway, that's all over now and Stitt is in with a wink, congratulations Mississippi you still have a neck-and-neck competitor for the bottom of the barrel on all those education and healthcare lists.

I really love my local state representative after the recent redistricting, though, gonna be a genuine pleasure to vote for them for the first time. My former representative wasn't bad, but Mauree Turner is the goddamn business.

Gonna do an early vote today since I'm working on election day. Mostly there to throw a protest vote agianst McMaster since South Carolina is hell bent on re-electing him and Lindsay Graham until the heat death of the universe.

Hell, most of the down ticket ballots are either one republican candidate or maybe an Alliance Party member which has zero seats anywhere in the US government structure and also doesn't have any kind of political platform that I could find.

It's very discouraging to live here!

When the Democrats have spent more money than the radical candidate did running ads touting the things that the candidate is openly running on

Voted by mail here in Pennsylvania a few weeks ago. Philly makes it pretty easy to bypass any delays at the post office by setting up ballot drop boxes all over the city. One of them is literally two blocks from my apartment.

Also, and I'm sure this is happening everywhere, but we've been getting just the most blatantly racist political ads on TV during the World Series here. It's fucking terrible.

I had forgotten about Hillbilly Elegy until I read this.

Every time I see that, my brain processes it as 'Hellbilly Elegy by Rob Zombie' and I get disappointed when I look at it more clearly and it isn't.

Anyway, dropped my ballot off at the Election Office Dropbox last week. Straight Democrat ballot... where I could, given how many positions had only Repubs running completely (not even the Legal Marijuana Now Party showed up) unopposed.

I honestly don't think I'd be able to deal with the embarrassment if my state makes fucking Dr. Oz its senator.

At least it looks like Shapiro is a safe bet to beat that fucking neo-confederate in the election for governor.

Fetterman should be a big piece of the Democratic party going forward, win or lose, much like how Stacey Abrams should have been

But I really really hope Fetterman wins

Abrams is a big piece of the Dem party, she's just not in office, so a bunch of media are glad to not have to pretend to care about the things a black woman has to say.

In other election news, I was pleasantly surprised to see someone running as a Communist in my (solid Dem) US House district, so I was finally able to vote my conscience in one of these races.

    Felt OK.
