I noticed it last episode too but god the money they’re throwing just on people’s pupils are wild. God it was such a cliffhanger ending though, took me a second to realize we had transitioned into the ending theme.
Ch. 111
So like, what exactly was Yuko? Like she died and got resurrected by War’s sister but into what? She’s not a fiend because I guess she didn’t actually become the Justice devil if she’s saying it’s still out there. Also fiends never retain any of the humanity right? Like that person is dead and just been taken over completely. Or, hmm, I guess the gun fiend kinda refutes that? I dunno.
Anyways, to the obvious point yo what the fuck at that last page. The build on that shadow reminds me a lot of the katana devil.
I don’t think powers platform of “I have a Nobel prize and my first act will be instituting a 100% sales tax” will get her many votes but man I’m been wrong before.
So at the risk of being lynched , what Kobenis appeal? Is she just a comic relief panic attack character? Or does she do something cool? Or is it just cause she is the internets adorable panic attack waifu?
Aside from the stuff which was mentioned in the other thread, there's two VERY SPECIFIC things which make people love Kobeni.
There should be a designation for spoilers for the manga beyond published English volumes (currently Volume 11/Chapter 97) signed someone who waits for physical volumes to purchase.

No problem, I'm going to make it a point to include the chapter I'm talking out above the spoiler tag because I know not everyone has read the most resent chapter. In addition to getting physical volumes, there are also people that like to let chapter build up and binge.
Also going to dump my last post from the anime thread here because I'd be curious to see other people's takes.
CSM spoiler related to last week's episode.
Before I get to Ch 111 of CSM, I do want to comment on Gundi's remark of the Gun Devil also being a metaphor for stochastic terrorism. I'm pretty sure Fujimoto did this intentionally. I'm wondering if the idea, is to avoid having to make a devil for each thing that people fear, while also having another in universe wild card for devils appearing stronger than one would first think. AKA it's possible for a devil to feed off of more than just one fear. There is the directed fear, like the bat devil gaining power from a fear of bats, but also associated fears, that could provide far more power. The gun devil is incredibly powerful both because gun violence creates a ton o fear, but also there the fact that it is associated with stochastic terrorism and that is another thing that generates a ton of fear.
Not to mention the association thing can also be a door for creating conflict be devils. Sword devil, Bomb devil and really any of the weapon devils could easily usurp the Gun devils association with stochastic terrorism and get a huge power up at the expense of the gun devil.
CSM Ch. 111
The reason I wanted to comic on Gundi's comment from last week's episode instead of making a joke about maybe we saw the reveal of the imposter devil. Is that associations could be at play here as well. It's possible there could be more than one chainsaw devil at a time. At the same time, it's worth keeping in mind that chainsaw man is now consider a hero and heroes are associated with justice, while there is always a fear of justice and heroes being corrupted. So perhaps instead of seeing another chainsaw devil, we are seeing the justice devil, who can now take on a form that cost a shadow similar to chainsaw man because both are now heavily associated with one another; especially, since Makima mentions that the Chainsaw Devil was a hero of hell before Chainsaw Man became a hero of earth.

manga spoilers through part 2
Denji's situation where he maintains his human mind while being able to call upon devil powers and having both human and devil scent according to Makima is so rare it doesn't have a name. But we see it happen again with the katana devil and bomb devil right? I'm guessing that's sort of what we're seeing with Yuko but the terms of the contract are different.

Neither of them are likely to happen this season.
Well I will look forward to it then !
There's also some meta/meme aspects to people's appreciation, like how her car would score higher than her in Shonen Jump popularity polls

Besides comic relief, she does serve a narrative purpose.
Full CSM manga spoilers:
She has a really important conversation with Denji towards the end of Part 1 when Kishibe takes her and Denji on the lam.
She's one of three named characters to survive Part 1 (the others being Denji and Kishibe), though arguably she survives because the author can't stop thinking of fun ways to torment her.

Back to CSM talk, apparently Japanese fans are being lot more critical/toxic about the direction of the anime
snip
I have seen some of the comparison panels where they have changed some of the expressions, some have been toned down to be less goofy. I think that's why Kobeni stands out so much in this adaptation, she's the only one pulling really wacky faces.
Just to be clear, I'm a fan of the anime and think it's turning out better than I had hoped, but I won't lie... The best panels in CSM have ridiculous expressions that lend to the overall vibe of the story
I'm sad to hear this isn't getting universal acclaim, because I'm pretty confident this will end up being my favorite anime adaptation of anything ever.
Some of the changes between manga and anime are medium specific (like changing the Kon page turn scene), but it seems like the complaint people have is the direction? It's being animated, filmed, and acted like these are real people (at great expense), so while on the page something would need to be drawn exaggerated to emphasize tone, movement, etc., on screen all of these things can be accounted for with the composition, fluidity of movement, and performance from the actors. I think the series being treated like on screen cinema only helps it, since movies are important both in universe and to the original author. It's uniquely done and special because of it.
Segueing into episode 6, I went back and read the chapters for this week, and the staging is definitely different between manga and anime, but I think it's because the director looked at the manga paneling and instead of copying it, thought of how to use the anime medium to convey the sense of looped space effectively. Having movement, especially when they're paying for movement of this level, and not leveraging it to maximum effect would be silly.
Power was also A+ chaos this week. Both creating it and feeding off it. Reminds me of a cat's personality, if I'm being truthful.
P: "Let's kill Denji! Denji, die for my Nobel!"
D : "What?! No!"
P: *sulks*
P: "Wanna wrestle?"
D : "You JUST said you wanted to kill me! Hell no!"
The final shot of Denji leaping into the maw of the Eternity Devil and the scene transitioning right into the ED song was amazing.
The creator of CSM, Fujimoto-san, was banned from Twitter because he was live reacting to new episodes of the anime... Roleplaying as his little sister... Whom does not exist.
Dumb speculation, but was Denji a ghoul or some sort of half breed before merging with Pochita? Cuz he's got the spiky teeth and weird eyes before merging and no one other than ghouls have that.

japan has always had a cultural association with infinity and the number eight, csm is drawing from the same well as endless eight (which wasn't named for the number of episodes, it's also set during august)

she's still a ghoul but the devil possessing her made sure to keep her mind human, usually when devils take over the just take complete control and nothing of the human remains, but since War's sister wanted to go under cover that wouldn't work. She'd basically have no clue how to human like Power and end up standing out like a sore thumb. So now the devil and human are sharing the body.

Well we got an answer to another Chainsaw Man pretty quickly. And I get the sense that we were wrong and that girl will turn out to be the Justice Devil. Maybe part of her power is granting an already-existing devil power to a human?
Or she's the famine devil afterall and her power is the balance between giving (powers) and taking (powers)?

I think
Scale-earrings girl is going to count as both Justice and Famine.
Chapter 112 was pretty dense. I'm going to have to think about all the threads woven here.

It could be that
It's famine and people are confusing her for justice because of the scale earrings. As in, the people in comic are.
Case in point: All the girl could think about was eating her friend after she became a fiend. Denji and Power were not like that.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Just went and checked. Depending on how they pace it, might be 2.

All the EDs have had full length songs go up in the following week on Youtube.
