Fill in the blank. What is the most notable thing about your 2022? Proud and a little sad to say for me it was

The Year of Grey’s Anatomy

I watched all 400 episodes within this calendar year. Estimating 48 minutes per episode that means I spent 13.33333333 days of the year watching Grey’s Anatomy.

It doesn’t sound like a lot when you put it like that but it is!!!

Callie Torres will forever have my heart

    Maybe the Hangout's broken

Also, I played between 350-450 hours of FFXIV, completing all main story content. And I started in August. Fantastic game, well worth the investment.

2022, the year in which I have finally completed my doctoral project and set myself on the final path to graduate in May. This is a long time coming for me (since 2018) when a category 5 hurricane derailed my life for about 2 years….. and I am so excited to say I’ll add my final letters behind my name

The year of transition for me. So many wonderful things have happened thanks to HRT, and it has made me feel so much better. Some other stuff happened, but nothing as notable.

2022 has been the year of Autism.

My son was diagnosed in February and literally...

    literally

every single day since has been adjusting our plans and expectations around him. He is my wife's full time job and depending entirely on how he's feeling that day can be fantastic or heartbreaking. He hasn't made nearly as much progress as we'd hoped and next year we're planning to move to a different country with a different funding and education system and we won't really know how he'll deal with it until it's time.

Having a 4 year old is hard for everyone but Jesus Christ this is extra exhausting.

Bad health. I got shingles which wiped me out for months, and then covid which did the same, and I have not been healthy since. And I'm several thousand dollars in debt from missing tons of work. It has not been a very good year.

Year of the roller coaster for me, I think! Seriously struggled with mental health disabilities brought on by a hostile workplace, used the money that said workplace settled with me to pay for my first house (which I split with my parents, a relief to be able to give them some housing security at their age) and the trip my Dad and I have wanted to take to London and Dublin since I was 12. The trip ruled, the house is lovely.

Fought and won to get on disability leave after 9 months of barely getting by both emotionally and financially (which took about 3 times longer to achieve than to actually recover from said disability). In the midst of that, engaged in an interview process that took about as long for a dream job where I get to try on a lot of different hats until I retire. Big fan of this.

Also got super into weightlifting which has been a huge plus for my self esteem!

Was able to finally rebuild a social life and spend a lot more time in person with dear friends I missed over the lockdown phase of the pandemic, and make a bunch of new ones. Looking forward to doing more of that in 2023!

2022 was the year in which I finished my temporary coverage of a teacher, lost that position (and other openings) due to professional backstabbing & bureaucracy, and on my descent somehow managed to land into another temporary coverage of a teacher.

What might 2023 bring with it? Well, if I can make a wish and blow out these candles, its to finally have a permanent teaching position.

That said, the rest of 2022 was fun! Attended a great bachelor party for a best friend from college (and then flew across the nation a few months later for his wedding), continued to squirrel away money for a house (here's hoping that market swings in my favor), and solidified my digital-social schedule.

This past year AniMenagerie, the SE++ anime discord server I run with @Reynolds, conquered two more seasons of programming, bringing us to two years of prosperous management.

I know, one of my yearly highlights is anime. God dammit, god damn this fowl planet.

    Other highlights of this year:
-- Some idiot spent $44 billion on a website for everyone on it to tell him he fuckin' sucks
-- I continued to NOT have to pay any of my student loans, which is about the weakest positive that could have come about but I'll take it
-- I finally have gained enough teaching experience for my certificate to transfer to almost every state in the United States, which, ya know, options are good
-- Crypto-currency seems to have cratered
-- I bought so many books
-- I watched 237 movies this year, 18 of those releases from this year.

I had two sessions in particular that were more productive than all my prior sessions with every other therapist I've ever had combined.

Zonugal was all like, "I think I'd like to watch some indisputably good, all-time classic anime through a neat little website I found." And I was like, "What if we watched a bunch of garbage and posted gifs at each other instead, and for some reason there's a channel just for Columbo and Riverdale?" I don't know how it/I have lasted this long, but, thank you very much!

I also had a bit here about turning 40 this year and feeling really old, but that's depressing. This has been sitting in my drafts since Christmas Eve because I typed it right as the holiday forums hit.

I've had reasonably good luck with therapists throughout my life, but I know people who haven't and my god

A recent anecdote was the therapist asking if the patient had talked to their parents over the holidays. "NOPE. THEY'RE STILL DEAD."

Like, motherfucker, do you not have notes?!

That would be quittin' time for me, although it's only recently that I've developed the boundaries to do that, so I understand why people don't know that they even can demand a new clinician.

The worst I've had was the "family" therapist my parents took us all to who ended our first session by identifying me as the cause of the family's problems and suggesting that we cancel the group sessions in favor of 1:1 sessions with just me.
